PRICE CHECK - circa 1955 Model 94

Post by gumpond »

Found a pre-64 model 94 Winchester 30WCF in a pawn shop. I doesn't show much wear, none to the blueing and no dings in the wood. The action is still tight like it hasn't been used much. No rust or scratches. Finish on the wood is age cracked but intact. Bore is clean.
What range would a gun like this be priced?

Hey!! That looks like my table

Thanks,
Greg

In my neck of the woods they go for about $400 to 450. Since that looks like your table I guess it is too late to ask what it is going for. :D

It'd be worth between $300.00 to $500.00 here in my area depending on condition. I sold one made in 1953 last year for $400.00 which matched the example you describe and the picture shown.

More, in this area, relistically even in this economy, $500-550, at least $450. Post 64 junkers (64-74 or so) are still $325-400, (some asking more inexplicably).
On that one, sounds like just a good oil rub down would solve most of its few ills.

I'm hopin' it's just a trick of the lighting, but that stock doesn't look quite right. Is the area behind the wrist up to the comb "dished"? It shouldn't be. Model 64s were fluted, but standard 94s were flattish to ever so slightly convex, not concave in that area. Plus is the buttplate flat? I'm pretty sure that's just the angle I'm seeing it from that makes that look concave also.

IMO, a pre-64 in the condition you described, un-messed-with, is somewhere between $400 to shy of $550 depending of course, on just what you & I define as "not much wear."

What Hobie said.

I bought it today for $325. Running the serial# said it was 1955. The comb is straight. The checkered steel but is curved about 3/16". The numbers and winchester stamps are all chrisp as new. The wood is dark but is matched and the finish is cracked like my old A-5 Browning. I do not think it has been retouched.
The screws are pre 64 configuration. The cartridge lifter is not pressed metal. Borrowed a diagram from Hobie, thanks, before buying. Asking the price is just for conversation. I am happy with it. I'd of had to pay more for a new one I'd enjoy less. In fact this, if it shoots as straight as my cira 79 94, will be my new go to hunting carbine.
I hate having a gun that I've never taken game with. Oh well, another thing I'll quickly have to care care of. No rest for the weary..

Been in the books all weekend and am really getting tired of it. :( Looking forward to next weekend, going to the farm and trying out this rifle. Hope it does as good as my 94XTR.
If it does, what should I do with the other 4 30-30s? I tell you life can get real complicated...
My son was rubbing in being in the woods this weekend. He said they got 4 this weekend that he knows of. They are still in the woods....
