9422 - lost my magazine!!
I had my two oldest boys out for squirrel yesterday. The oldest (16) got one!! I sat with the youngest (13) we saw a couple groundhogs and a couple deer. A good evening hunt.
When we got home I noticed the tube magazine was missing from my 9422. I plan on going back over the routes we walked last evening. Hopefully we will find it. If we don't, where can I get one? Does anyone still make the 9422?
Thanks,
HH

Re: 9422 - lost my magazine!!
Browning / Winchester will probably have one.
Just curious, I've carried my 9422 and other tube fed .22s over hill and dale and never lost my mag tube, how in the world can you carry a rifle and not suddenly realize it got real muzzle light?
Brownells used to stock it. The part # in my print out (1-28-04) is:
910-365-007 or 910-365-008. Not sure what the difference is, probably length.

Re: 9422 - lost my magazine!!
I unloaded the magazine before we started walking out. So there is no spring pressure to lock it into the gun and not much weight difference.
BTW I was not carrying it. My boys traded stuff halfway out. So they each carried it. Don't ask how you don't notice the piece falling out the end, it is pretty long. Whatever, I just want it found or replaced as it is rather useless without the magazine.
I am going to do something to prevent this from happening in the future. I have never liked how it does not stay in when ammo is out. My other tube magazine 22 locks in securely with no ammo.
Thanks,
HH

Re: 9422 - lost my magazine!!
HH,
The magazine tube on my 9422 was the same way. With no ammo in it and no spring pressure the inner tube liked to come loose.
I just slightly bent the little tab on the end of the outer tube that the peg on the inner tube hooks under in a bit. That puts a tension on the inner tube and it doesn't come out by itself any more.
May be other ways to do that, but that way was quick simple and painless and works.
Since the boys were carrying it, I'd send them out and tell them not to come back with out.

mine is pretty loose unloaded! I wondered about a very slight bend on the inner tube but Joes idea sounds good.

I tried a little rubber O ring on the end of the inner, it worked but I too think Joe's idea is worth a try.

According to their 2008 online catalogue, the magazine innards are $13.00 plus $5 S&H.
I bought one from them a year or so ago to repair a friend's gun that got some unwanted rust on it. I expected the price to be higher, but it was the same as the online catalogue.

At least you only lost your magazine. I'm losing more and more of my mind the older I get and I can't find a single location that'll sell it back to me.

Re: 9422 - lost my magazine!!
I went out today with my 13 yr old. We could not find it. But we did find a nice place to sit and hunt from!! Always a good thing.
I am going to call the Winchester site and see if I can get it from them. They were much cheaper than Numrich. I'll post back about pricing compared to the 2008 catalog.
I do like the idea Joe mentioned above. That will happen to my 9422 as soon as I get a new magazine.

Re: 9422 - lost my magazine!!
Well I finally gave up on finding the mag tube. (I am cheap what can I say.) So I called browning and ordered the part. I did not say anything about the price on the web site of $13. They guy said they were $13. I just smiled. So, they are still going off the 2008 parts catalog.
They did say they have a limited number of them and are not making anymore. So I bought two. I will probabaly loose one or maybe both of them over the next few years. I did bend the end of the outer tube as someone suggested this should help. It would be nice if they had some spring pressure like other 22s I have seen.
I think I am going to send my 9422 in to them. It has feeding issues ever since new. Sometimes the cartridge is crooked and does not chamber.
See ya,
