Leupold M8-4X Compact
Anyone use one of these?
I bought it last year and have yet to install it on a rifle I bought it as New in Box. I am trying to decide if I want to keep it and mount it on a 30-30 or just sell it.
It is a nice little scope they do not make it any more. It is very compact for sure.

I have a M8 4x with duplex crosshairs on my M70 featherweight .308, but I do not know if it was called a compact. It has been on the rifle for many years and has helped punch a lot of paper targets and slay many a deer. I have often considered replacing it with a new 2.5 x8 vari X III, but just have not got around to it. So many things to do, so little time.

YES...great scope! I had one on a Remington Model 7 stainless/synthetic lightweight rifle chambered in .308.
It was a great scope/rifle combo. Ex-wife took the rifle and scope as she had claimed it as her deer hunting rig.
I miss that scope and rifle, but I don't miss her.
uhh...you don't happen to have a Remington Model 7 .308 there with it do you?

Azoil, I have a regular 4x M8 on a Ruger#1, good size for the ring spacing and an excellent scope. I think 4x is a VERY useful size for an all around compact and rugged scope for most all big game hunting. I own several other Redfield and Weaver 4 power scopes and I've used them to scope animals at over 200yds and it's more than sufficient for precise shot placement, as I've shot some sub 1" groups at 100yds using them. I think you have hit on a perfect combination! good luck

No 308, but my Dad's 7mm-08 Remington 788 is in the safe.

I'll have to look at these and check. I have a 22 rimfire scope on my Henry 22.Caco wrote:Bought one used as a 22 scope-came in the 4x compact box not marked as 22. Not shure, but wonder if the new 200$ 22 scope isn't the same package but with the 50 yd parallax? What Parallax did the old compact have. This 22 scope has really fine cross hairs. Could it just be the compact?
Dave
Ed & Doc,
Only thing that concerns me is the chance of a shot beyond 200yds in AZ is fairly good. I was thinking about going with another 2-7 rather than the 4x. But like dr walker says, I can always try it. However, if I do that then it would likely have ring marks on it.
No big deal. I was thinking it would be a handy size on the little "Alamo gun". I may just go ahead and mount it.

Well, I was listing the other Leupold I have on EBay and just went ahead and listed this one. Will see what happens.

IMHO a 4x scope is good on game past 400 yds. If you'll take a shot with a peep at 125, you can about multiply that by 4.......azoil wrote:Ed & Doc,
