OT - .22 Mag. question.

Post by cshold »

Question for you guys that shoot the .22 mag.

What brands of .22 WMR ammo. would you suggest I
start out with in my quest to find the one that
shoots the best.

This is for my latest acquisition, a Colt
New Frontier with a 6â€

i have shot all the different ammo, but i keep going back to two. the solid full jacket 40grainer and the 36 grain winchester supreme. in my marlin and my win 9422m the accuracy isn't great enough to matter as i am hunting my match shooting. bullet performance and cost is what i am mostly interested in.

i want either deep penetration or rapid expansion. these two provide that with reasonable accuracy expectations. in my revolver i will only use solids as i want the greatest penetration to compensate for the diminished velocity.

Winchester Super X Hollowpoints are very accurate in my 94/22mag rifle.

I have never shot my Ruger single six with the magnum cylinder, all that much, mainly because it is ear splitting loud, so I can't really say what would be the best for it.

Out of the TC Contender, all manner of 22 WRM shoots accurately. It is odd that they all seem to group tight as can be. With the Ruger SS, the bets performer is the 45 grain Dynapoint from Winchester.

I bought a bunch of PMC Predator it is a 40 gr jsp it shoots well in my guns and it was half cost of ammo like Remington 33 gr. plastic tips. So, until I run out, it is my favorite. By the looks of my supply that wont happen anytime soon.

I really can't suggest a load for a pistol, but CCI V-Max group the best out of my Henry levergun. A lot better. For general purpose use, the CCI 40gr TMJ Maxi-Mag is the other bullet I've settled on. Didn't have much luck with Winchester stuff. Cabela's has some cheap plinking ammo but was out the last time I placed an order. I really wanted to try it just to see what that could do.

I won't buy anything but CCI ammo for my rimfire guns. It's only brand that goes off every single time I pull the trigger. I like the 40 grain solids in the .22 Mag.

I tested every type of .22 Mag I could get my hands on in my 9422M the Winchester SuperX 40gr JHP is the most accurate in my rifle. Both my Ruger Single Sixes shoot the Winchester Dynapoint the best but the SuperX shoots next best.
