Levergun Newbie
I have been wanting a model 94 for a long time and after lots of looking and waffling, I picked up a Canadian Centennial Rifle from the used rack at Cabelas that appeared to never have been shot. I traded a Browning shotgun in on it since I had 2 in the gun safe. Anyway it is a great rifle for what I wanted. I really wanted a shooter and not a collectable, so it seemed to fit the bill. I took it out last week and put 3 boxes of shells through it to see what kind it like the best. Seems the 150 gr Core Lokt work well and group decently. Sure is fun to shoot and pretty reasonable for a center fire.
After shooting I decided I would like to upgrade the sights. I want to keep iron sights and tend to like tang peeps, but have thought about just using a standard Tru Glo set up. I would appreciate input on what set up have worked well for others.
BTW, this technically not my first levergun. I have my Grandfathers 1894 30WCF take down saddle rifle. It was promised to my older brother, but he has never made arrangements to have it shipped to him, so it has sat in my gun safe for the past 15 years or so.
It seems that it is easy to get Levergun fever and one is not nearly enough. I have been undergoing unsuccessful treatment for Spanish Steel disease and have aquired some rather beautiful side by sides. I think the common theme is that I like classic firearms, although I have a number of scoped high power rifles. Heck, I guess I just like guns.
Thanks for for the help.

Re: Levergun Newbie
The Lyman 66 or Williams 5D or FP would be my choice.

Tycer, I don't know anything about a letter and exemption. Can you fill me in on those.
Oh, yes, get a Williams FP for that gun. Quick, easy and right.

Re: Levergun Newbie
hi Don,
levergun fever is a fun disease to have sometimes
When i joined the forum a couple of years ago, i only had an 1894 carbine passed down to me by my father ---- Since then, my litter of leverguns has grown dramatically. I formerly tinkered around mainly with black rifles and bolt guns and have not forsaken them, but i like the levers better now for the type of hunting and shooting i do

Hi Don glad you're here. You'll like it. These guys have been a great help to me.
As for a tang peep. I have been getting Lymans, but they have been a bit hard to get windage right. A copper shim or two has been necessary. I do like the old timey look.

I have a 73 that looks just like hightime's only mine has a Marbles tang sight. It has windage adjustment. I have about 5 levers with Marbles tang sights so you can see I like them.

Welcome to the forum. Leveritus is a disease and by only buying more leverguns can you hope to keep it in check. Alittle anyways.

Here's a part of a thread with lots of pictures that may help, and a bit of comments from my own experience which may not...DBCinID wrote:After shooting I decided I would like to upgrade the sights. Anyway, hope it helps. I'd be doing the Williams FP-94, myself, with aperture for sighting-in, and without for general shooting.
Lest you think a gunsmith is needed to properly install a Williams FP on a non-tapped gun, this thread shows that even I managed to do it...
