I looked at one when they first came out and was not impressed. Have they improved any?

I have a buddy that bought one a week ago and returned it broken after cycling a mag full of rounds. Never fired it.
Kind regards,
Tycer

I grew up with a bunch of Mossbergs, must of been the Golden Age for them in the 60's and 70's as they were pretty good for the money. the new mossberg lever I looked at last year left alot to be desired. :( . along with several members haveing problems with them I won't touch one. right now on Gunbroker there are 573 Winchester and Marlin 30-30's. enough to choose from.just My .02.

That rifle could have been a huge money maker for Mossberg. I was planning on buying one until I read about all of the problems that OJ had with his.

And I like Mossberg, I have an old 472 Lever and two shotguns; 835 and 590A1.

This is certainly disappointing. Did he say what part was broken?

Nope. He did not say, but the action locked. He's now the proud owner of a 1967 336.

No kidding! It's gotten to the point where all of the stores wont say anything nice about them either, which obviously means that they are getting a lot of returns and problems and this is really unforgivable in this market today. That rifle could have been a jobs maker for Mossberg and led to a line of rifles in other calibers but no - they've dorked it up and now every bit of good will in the marketplace has dried up.

Look, the truth is that none of the stores around me will say anything good about Tauruses either, but they sure sell a lot of 'em! This clearly tells me that the problem is the percentage of returns and the folks who luck out and get a good one are probably just fine and enjoying their firearm. I suspect that's true of this Mossberg lever rifle too - if a guy gets a good one he's lucky and it'll probably work for him just fine. Some of the accuracy reports have been wonderful. And as we all know every manufacturer sends out a percentage of bad guns. Ruger, for example, is famous for a small percentage of guns that are broken and non-functional right out of the box; I bought an Uberti 1873 recently that was assembled improperly at the factory and would barely cycle rounds. Stuff happens. It's just the odds here that completely kill the deal for me because I HATE having to return a gun and get it sorted out. I've got an LR-308 that I got for Christmas that isn't properly sorted - I'm going to pick it up from the gunsmith in an hour or so on the umpteenth round of suggested "fixes" to a problem that the factory refuses to acknowledge. It frosts my gord to no end!! Would I sign up for the same trouble by buying a Mossberg lever or a Taurus pistol? Heck no.

It's sad, really sad. I like the looks/shape of the thing, especially the pistol grip version. I like the modified Browning action. I like that it's made in the U.S. I just wish they'd gotten their QC down pat before sending it out.

Handling one at a store, I was specifically unimpressed with the spring steel extractor. Looked loose and cheap. And there was a 15 year old Marlin 336 right next to it to campare to, with basically the same set up. Marlin's seemed much more robust.

Granted, that was just a non-firing handling impression. But I did not spend my money on it, that day.
