OT-Reduced recoil 12 gauge slugs

Post by win7094M1 »

We are issued these for LE/Corrections work. Have any of you ever hunted game with these?
Would there be any realistic difference in effectiveness between these and a "full power" slug?
(My shoulder can tell the difference!)
Winchester M94 30-30 (1980)
Winchester M70 Westerner 30-06 (1982)
Winchester M1 Garand (1942)
Too many others to list - hope to add more levers soon.

I've used the Federal Tru-Ball Low Recoil extensively on deer and bear out to 70 yds and they were very effective and much easier to shoot than the "full power" slugs.

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen. I have heard good things about the tru ball slugs. Maybe Federal shotgun ammo will be bought for us in the future. We currently buy the Winchester Ranger brand 00 buck and slugs.

Hastings has/had a sub sonic 12 gauge slug, it was recommended for use with the Metro bbl. extension for "quiet" work.
At that time they claimed to keep shots 50 yds or less. They were accurate in my 11-87 at that range. Unfortunately I never got to use it for deer, but there was adequate energy available.

I use the reduced sluggers from Remington, every deer I've shot, looked like I shot'em with a golf ball.Although I've not shot more than 50yds.Inexpensive and adequate, love'em.
