marlin 444

Post by two bit okie »

Ok, Marlin has problems. dont we all. but I would be interested in a 444 with a full length mag tube and a straight stock. I dont like the half mag and pistol grip. (call me dumb if you like.)

I would like to send an E-mail to Remlin and see if such a beast is contemplated.

Buuuut, How can I reach them with an email, that is not a complailnt???. I cant find an email address.

I'm thinking you'd have to call or write a letter (and call anyway, to find where to send it currently).

'Word on the street' is that they're not making ANY leverguns for the next few months, then they may just make a few 'core' models at first.

If they really wanted to bring in some $$, and they're having to re-tool and set up anyway, they should take the opportunity to make some .25-20's, .219 Zippers, .45 Colt 1894's in stainless steel, .30-30 AI's, .444 Guide Guns, and other odds-and-ends, finish them really well, and THEN go back to the 'old stand-by' guns. The reason is I think they'd sell those guns as fast as they made them, and I'm not sure all that many people are out there lusting for 336's in .30-30 these days (and if they are, they'll just buy used ones).

Buy the first .444 that presents itself (you may get lucky & get a straight-gripped 1st Model), and customize it via haning a full-length mag tube on it, rasping off the wooden PG, filing off the curved section of the bottom tang, and either straighten the lever loop, or buy a straight lever.

IMHO he might be better of getting a used Marlin 1895CB in 45-70 with the octagon barrel and full length tube and sending it off to be bored and fitted with a 444 Marlin barrel liner !

Then you could have a 26" full octagon barrel , straight grip and a full length tube ! That little alteration would cost you about $350 on top of whatever you could get the rifle for !

My own personal opinion on that manufacturer and their new to them parent company , is they can go straight to where it's hot and a pointy tailed horned guy wears a red suit !

I have no intentions of buying ANY Marlin's newer then say 1980 and probably no Remington's newer then 1990 .
