Muzzle brakes
Can anyone give me any info. on the years Marlin 1895's, 45-70 , had a muzzle brake? I was told this was a factory barrel, not a gunsmith application. Thanks.

Marlin did make quite a few Marlin 1895G's and M's with the factory muzzle break. They do help reduce recoil but are loud.

ALL OF THE ORIGINAL MARLIN 45/70 GUIDE GUNS HAD A BUILT -IN MUZZLE BRAKE.
IT WAS EVENTUALLY DROPPED WHEN SO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE NOISE IT DIRECTED ONTO THE SHOOTERS EARS.
ON THE OTHER HAND IT WAS A DARNED FINE 'BREAK AND WORKED VERY WELL. THE MARLIN GUIDEGUN WAS A PUDDYTAT TO SHOOT COMPARED TO THAT DANGED MISERABLE THUMPIN' WILD WEST CO-PILOT, WHICH ALSO HAD A MUZZLE-BREAK.

Thanks a bunch guys. I have two 1895's now. Love the guns. One straight stock and one pistol grip. Now I have to find one with a brake. Thanks again. Love this site.
