What a stoke of LUCK!

Post by KCSO »

I am sitting in the shop right now fondling a 1892 Winchester in 32-20. An old fellow I know came into the shop with the gun and a box of shells with one round missing. He wanted to sell me the gun and when he gave me a price my jaw dropped. The gun is somewhat rough on the outside but all original and is a full uncut rifle. I swabbed the bore and the bore is PERFECT, no rust no pits clean sharp rifling. He told me I (I) could have the gun for $300. I almost broke my arm getting to my wallet.

BUT...
Here is the best part, the fellow knows I was the Sheriff for years and collect historical items so he brought the gun to me. It seems the Town Marshal confiscated the gun in the 1920's after it was used in a altercation over a STILL. He gave me the names of the people involved and I knew them all. I will have to try and get the court records to go with the gun. The gun was taken by a fellow that I met when I first started in L/E in the area and I have his badge and sap in my collection. The fellow I got the gun from has had it for over 40 years now and just decided to pass it on to me. He gave the Marshal $20 for the gun in the 60's after the Marshal retired.

Cool. I've come across a few guns while on duty that I would of loved to have taken home, but don't want to give anyone an impression of taking advantage of the situation because I'm an LEO. Now if that happens after I retire, well, I'll jump on it.

I can well imagine that you are a "giver" yourself. Good things come back when you invest once in awhile to some one elses good fortune. This was a good score for you, good news to hear.

Sure am glad to here that for you. I know that you will enjoy carrying and shooting that fine old rifle. What year was it made? Is it the 24 inch rifle? I have one that I bought from my uncle in 1954, 24 inch round barrel rifle made in 1917, it's still a great shooter. When you post pictures of the rifle I would like to see the ammo box too.
