I'm not sure if this belongs here, or in the politics section. If it needs to be moved, have at it.
In a school district meeting today, we were told that as of 2009, military personnel and vets who were out of uniform were authorized to salute during the presentation of the colors, and during the playing of the National Anthem. I had to look it up, and here it is.

Judge a person not for how they act, but for who you can help them become.

Loke...it didn't matter a tinkers darn if they authorized it or not. We "the lost vets" will do what we want to do, when we want to do it. I'll salute the flag I adore when I want to & how I want to...I've earned it, just like every other 'Nam or Korean etc. vet...man or women.
AUTHORIZED? THE HELL THEY SAY!
THEY HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT DAMMIT. WHOEVER "AUTHORIZED" IT CAN GO POUND SAND...THEY HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT...EVER.

Loke,
Thanks for posting that link. It had been a while since I read the codes. I was wondering why some of the vets were saluting as if they had a cover on during our Kiwanis meetings. I was always raised to salute by placing your hand over your heart or just stand at attention if you were out of uniform, so I would be very uncomfortable doing other wise.
It's all about honor and respect. Some folks just need rules to guide them. Unfortunately others are disrespectful no matter what.

We exhausted that sometime around it came around... and yes, a couple of years ago seems about right. I'll still salute when I have a cover on, and put my hand on my heart when not. Back as a young lad, before I entered the service, I was taught that I was cover my heart with my hat, but after serving, I modified my own RULES for proper respect... In Levis or shorts, I'm still "in-the-service"... till they have to push me around in a wheelchair... and even then I might try to enlist if I feel I might be useful!!!!

When in doubt, whip it out was the old saying. They did pass that right after I retired. Thanks for passing that info to others.
