Growing up in the military, I've lived in and seen quite a few different places. I love vacationing in the Rockies, and I love going "home" to south Louisiana to visit (and to eat). But I live in the Flint Hills Region of Kansas by choice. I like watching the sun rise and the moon rise on the east horizon, and to watch both set in the west. We may have to put up with some serious wind at times but the rolling hills and the tall grass prairie are beautiful. Good hunting; White Tails in the east, Mulies in the west, Antelope, Turkeys, Upland game birds, cotton tails, jacks and squirrels. What is not to like?

Oh, and any one who thinks that Kansas is flat, has never ridden from the west to the east on a bicycle (BAK - Biking Across Kansas).

Canuck Bob, having been in Calgary and Banff, I can't imagine a prettier place than Banff.

We live at cedar city utah, house is at 6,000 ft. Bryce canyon, zion and cedar brakes national parks are all close. Mountains get to over 10,000 ft behind us. Most the country out of town is BLM. It`s okay!

As much as I love the ocean, and being raised a mile from the best beach on Earth (Kailua) I miss my Kula, Maui home the best place I've ever lived. Mountain peace and solitude is nice something that is getting difficult to find near the sea here.

I am totally happy with the Texas hill country. I have coldwater fishing 20 minutes from my house, warmwater 8 miles away, the salt marsh is 2 hours. I can't see a neighbor from my house and I'm 17 miles from the office.

Maybe I'd move to the mountains if I had enough money to choose. Central Texas is mighty hot right now, but our country living is pretty fair. It's the daily commute I could do without but I'll have to wait another 10 years to avoid that.

I'm in Thayer, MO not far away. I like the hills. Got no use for anything high enough and steep enough I gotta use my hands and knees for climbing. OTOH the hills block enough of the horizon that I don't feel closed in on. There my be another house only half a mile away but as long as I can not see it it may as well be five miles. Quiet and private.

I'm partial to HIGH mountains and the lakes therein, such as the Uinta Mountains of Utah. Something extremely soothing about living among the pines and quakies that only see people 2-3 months out of any year. 10,000+ feet above sea level is where I'd love to have a permanent dwelling, if I could swing it.
