Modifying Rossi SRC

Post by Aggiecubpilot »

Howdy again to everyone and thanks for the warm welcome! Question is pertaining to an old Rossi 92 carbine. It shoots and has a great trigger but needs a little action honing to be smooth. As long as I'm thinking about doing some work to it, I'm also looking for ideas that others have done to theirs to make them different. Sights, mag length, wood finish... What have you done?

Also, has anybody noticed that there rifles seem a bit short in length of pull compared to other SRC's?

I'm just snowballing ideas. I like the "classic" ness of the saddle gun but also want something different too. Shotgun butt would be cool maybe...

Thanks for lettin me pick all y'alls opinion! Oh and I think I still owe somebody airplane pics as per my last thread. Lemme work on that...

I just wanted to be able to shoot like THIS at 50 yards. . . at NIGHT. . .

. . . if necessary (which it often IS, because we live on a farm and deal with coyotes and chicken-eating vermin on a regular basis), so I 'invented' what I called my Rossi "Night Scout" (which was preceded by a Marlin version).

This was a 16" BigLoop SRC, and it still is a 16" SRC, but I swapped out the loop for a standard lever with another board member (Thans again, hagler ! ), shortened the mag to a "button" mag (switching the forend band to a forend cap along the way), and have installed both a Skinner LoPro peep in the bolt, and a Williams FP-94AE peep in the receiver top rails (two different guns).

FWIW, both peep sights mounted low enough to easily zero using the issue height front sight(s).

You can also make your stock front-sight into a fiber-optic fairly easily.

If you like the Williams FP's, 5D's, Lyman, or similar receiver sights, here's a thread on how to drill & tap for them easily, if you've not done that before. http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... =1&t=25689

Here's lots of pics of various aperture sights you might consider; not all are pictured on the Rossi, but most would be useable on them - the pics begin about halfway down the thread - http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... ps#p390174
