OT: 45 ACP 250 gr lead mold

Post by Palmtreee »

Anyone use a 250 gr lead mold for the 45 ACP? I would like to find one that I can run in my 1911's, 625's and Marlin DRC 1894.

Have a Lee 255 RFN mold havent used it in the 1911 yet, but it feeds and shoots great out of the Puma 16". Does 1050fps avaerage out of a 18" 45 Auto T/C Contender carbine, and is fine in the Blachawk. 3leg
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

Any 250 grain round nose flat point should work just fine. I've loaded them for various 45 ACP's with fine results. It's no trick to get 800 fps and they feed like hard ball.

So long as you can crimp em such that the exposed portion of the bullet isn't over-sized, they work. I ran some 250s in my 1911 that would fail to return to battery, jamming 1/32 short, as the RN portion got hung in the rifling. A specific bullet at a specific OAL would be a great bit of info for anybody interested in doing so to have.

My main .45 acp load uses a Lyman 452190 that weighs right at 255grs. No problems.

I've had good luck with the 255 Lee also. Have used the 454424 too. Both shoot and feed extremely well in my 1911.
