Took a new to me Marlin 1895 cowboy out to shoot today and had some trouble getting enough elevation adjustment on the Lyman tang site. took it apart and the post that the aparature is attached to looks like it should move up and down in the sleeve it is contained in, however it is stuck fast and won't move.
Anybody able to shed some light on how this site adjusts? I was able to get a little (very little) adjustment by moving the sleeve up and down, but unable to get enough adjustment...the little set screw would be completely under the the indexed sleeve to move the site up enough to bring me onto the paper.
Any ideas? Other than buying a marbles site.
Lyman tang peep site adjustment?

Re: Lyman tang peep site adjustment?
Maybe you need to get a lower front sight. I'm glad you posted. I'm thinking about getting a tang peep for mine. Lately I've put two Lyman peeps on a Uberty 1873 and a Navy Henry. Both required a copper shim under the left side to get them to stand straight. Now that they are done, they shoot fine.

The tang site featured in the linked article was filed away for possible future use, but it is about a Marbles site, not the Lyman I am having trouble with.

I never took apart a Lyman, but I thought there might be some similarity between the two brands design-wise, with the elevation adjustment.
Did you do an internet search for parts-diagrams of the Lyman? Brownell's, Weidner's, and Numrich all might have something on them.
