Nice gun. + I like the way the stripes on the flag accidently lined up with the spindles in the chair back. Well done.

I rarely shoot anything hotter than Trapdoor level loads. The recoil isn't bad.

Re: My New 1895 Guide Gun
I always thought the stock guide gun recoil pad was pretty good. it's much better than the red concrete one on my .338.

Re: My New 1895 Guide Gun
Great rifle. I found it's not as big of a kick as everyone makes it out to be. It's more of a really big push.
I ended up putting on a skinner peep sight instead of a scope. It will be a camp gun or go to shore gun when in grizzly country where targets will be coming in fast and be relatively close.
Once again great little bang stick you've got there.

Re: My New 1895 Guide Gun
I keep looking at a 45-70 and a buddy has one that I shoot once in awhile. But I always convince myself that my 44 mag will do all I'll ever need. In that reguard my 357 lever will. But the want is still there.
Re: My New 1895 Guide Gun
Where was it made, new plant or old?

Re: My New 1895 Guide Gun
The old plant. I had a regular 1895 made in NY and it was well finished and shot fine. I just wanted the shorty.

Re: My New 1895 Guide Gun
Nice setup. I had to remove my scope and use a peep sight, because it migrated rearward with heavy loads.
What's your solution?

Re: My New 1895 Guide Gun
I used a LaRue tactical QD scope mount on my 1895 SBL. The mount is aluminum but has steel inserts that the screws thread into - so you can properly tighten the scope in the mount. The LaRue mounts aren't cheap, but it comes off or goes on in seconds and is a true "return to zero" mount.otteray wrote:Nice setup. Politicians and diapers both require frequent changing for the EXACT same reason!

I have a Weaver base and rings on my 444P, never had a problem with it either.Swampman wrote:Weaver rings....it won't move.otteray wrote:Nice setup. I had to remove my scope and use a peep sight, because it migrated rearward with heavy loads.

Re: My New 1895 Guide Gun
I'd like to try the Talley LW ring base combos. Natchez has them for $29.95.
