Mike D. wrote:Well, I have been diagnosed with cancer in both lungs, inoperable, of course. One lung is partially collapsed, causing a bit of breathing distress, but nothing very painful. My blood oxygen levels are still in the 90s and I generally feel OK most of the time. On Thursday AM, bright and early, I begin chemotherapy. I'll go once a week for 2 weeks and have a week off. The drugs will be Carboplatin and Gemcitabine on the first go-round, then Carbo only following. Thursday's session will take 4 hours, the next weeks only 40 minutes. The entire program should last 6-9 months and the outlook is promising. My spirits are high and I refuse to submit to this devilish disease. At least my off week will allow for our annual Yosemite trip, but it's doubtful that climbing Half Dome will be on my agenda. I've been up it 8 times anyway, so what's the big deal. The doc says that I shouldn't be anywhere near as sick as I was during the last session 3 years ago and this new "thing" in not related. Bad call for a life long non-smoker, but it just goes to show that there ain't no guarantees. We'll deal with it no matter what.

All that bein' said, it's time to head out to the garage to load some .45 Colts for the old New Service revolver. Can't sit around doin' nothin'. Last Saturday, my brothers and brothers-in-law went down to the ranch and killed a dozen crows in the cherry orchard. They, the crows, have been a real PITA lately, what with the fruit nearing harvest and all. I missed out because a couple of my buds called with a '56 T-bird broke down up on I-5 and I had to yard out some brake parts and stuff and take 'em up there. You can't go to Kragen and get old parts without explaining to the kids that work there what a 1956 car needs. If they can't find it in the computer they are lost. It was up to me to help them with the old books and get them to find the parts. Any '56-'57 Ford brake shoes will work, but that stuff's far before their time and it doesn't compute. It took over an hour to locate 75 bucks in parts, but it worked out in the end. :)
I am sorry to here this! After my recent cancer scare I... Understand but this is as over the top as I thought my situation was. Er actually more so. God Speed to you and good luck Mike. If you want to go to the range let me know a day before hand and I am available! If you need a ride let me know! Fir that matter anything I will help as best I can!

My father in law is on those now, for late stage cancer. It's been rough on him, but it has arrested the spread of cancer in him. I sincerely hope it works for you too.

Mike, I can't tell you how sorry I'am to hear this. You've got the right attitude and has been said that's a major part of whipping any disease. Life is short and I"d keep doing what I wanted to until I just couldn't. You're in my prayers. God bless.

Mike, what crappy news. I'm so sorry to read of this development and know that right now you can use all the support you can receive. I, and the rest of this bunch of levergun reprobates, want you to know we're here for you and each will keep you supplied with our prayers and/or good thoughts. Hang in there, remain in good spirits and continue to keep us updated as often as you can. - John

Well, I wish you the best, Mike. I'm glad you've
got some treatment options, and I hope they're
successful.

I like the way you're dealing with it - go fool around
with some old vehicles and reload more ammo! :D

A good friend of mine was just operated on for thyroid
cancer. Surgeon thinks he got it all, and they'll review
things in 6 months. I sure hope she's gonna be okay, too.

My first chemo session was this morning. I feel no nausea, just a mild headache from coughing spates. It's not merely psychosomatic, my breathing did actually rise a couple of points. The next 30 minute session is a week from today. This might just work. :)

Just think positive - Herman Cain had stage four colon cancer, and now several years later he is healthy enough to run for president... 8) I'm convinced that although 'medicine' plays a role, a good attitude and prayer likely makes a big difference.
