PRICE CHECK - Winchester 1894
I was in the local gun store yesterday and found a Winchester 1894 30-30 Win in good all around condition with a little bluing wear just north of the forearm. They say it was made 1944-1948. SN 1373928. Fair price?? Thoughts?? Worth consideration??

I'm certainly no expert on gun values, but for what you described, I probably wouldn't mind paying at least what a new Marlin 336 sells for these days.
Have you hugged your rifle today?

Here in the far north end of California a Winchester carbine of that vintage with good finish would fetch a minimum of $400. There are several Model 94's in the local shop, newer post-64 ones priced from $350 and pre-war versions to $900 depending on condition.
The latest Blue Book of Gun Values quotes Winchester 1940-1964 production carbines (condition rated in percentage of finish left):
100% $825, 98% $725, 95% $600, 90% $500, 80% $450, 70% $400, 60% $350, 50% $300, 40% $275, 30% $250, 20% $225, 10% $200.

+1 even in today's reduced/shaky market, in Az, $350 buys junk when it comes to Pre 64s. At least $450 for what you're describing. If the slight muzzle bluing wear is its only detraction, up that by $100-200..and a nice Pre War more yet, as Shasta says. YMMV (your market may vary).Shasta wrote:Here in the far north end of California a Winchester carbine of that vintage with good finish would fetch a minimum of $400. Re: PRICE CHECK - Winchester 1894
Sounds fair to me at $350 - $400 - depending on condition. I paid $395 for this Canadian Centennial 1867-1967 Winchester 94 in 30-30 last August - used but well cared for and in good condition.

It's the bottom one - top one is a Buffalo Bill Commemorative I bought new in 1968 - I bought them to shoot and not for any "collector's value".

Dealer is one of the long time dealers here and generally trusted to be reliable - I've put a couple of hundred rounds through it ant it's accurate and reliable -

Hello,
The rifle is technically a Model 94 and it was manufactured during 1946. Is the finish factory original on the gun? If it is and depending on just what the description of "good all around condition with a little bluing wear just north of the forearm." really looks like $350 would be a real good price. What exactly were they asking? Can you take some photos of the rifle and post them? It would be much more accurate.
Thanks

They were asking $600 which I felt was high. They are on the other side of the valley so going there for pictures may take a while since I don't currently have plans for going that way. Memory serves that it was the original finish and the bluing wear was typical IMO for someone that likes to shoot and also takes care of their rifle.twobit wrote:Hello,
