You guys making these holsters.........
So as not to hijack MRAN1126'S thread where he shows his beautiful holster creation, I started this one to say I can not imagine the time, talent, and tools that go into such a beautiful piece. Until recently, I kept on my computer desktop a pic from the forum here of another's work (three holsters in the photo if you recall it) that was similarly excellent.
I'd be very interested in hearing how you fellas got started and how you developed such skill. I know nothing about working with leather, but having worked as a custom golf club maker for years, I know my way around tools some and I have an interest in leather working. I wouldn't presume to be able to make a holster pretty as you have, but I'd be thrilled to learn what is involved in it in case I'd like to look into it further just as a hobby.
If you'd like to comment on websites, books, or your own experiences on where to begin to learn more, I expect a few here would be interested. Thank you. NICE WORK!

First thing I found when I did a quick search.
Seems it is staill available, which is cool. I may have to get this one too/
I have a few I need to make holsters for and a side rolled up in a nox upstairs.
Sure would have been a great project to start this week with the wind, rain and mid-forties temps.

If any of you all who are at the stage I'm at, rank beginner, start to get into this endeavor, feel free to post here any info. you want to on your progress. I know it'll be 2 wks. to a month before I take in enough info. to know what I really need tool wise. Once I figure out the cost to get started, I'll know if I really want to start in. I'll probably start by buying the Stohlman book and go from there. Thank you and thanks in advance for future info. left here.

Look for a Tandy Leather store you. They are a wealth of information, they should also have the books you need.

I kind of just learned on my own by watching videos.........reading ........buying just some basic tools. Lots of information on the internet. Just take time to look and learn.....then just try it. Tandy has instructional videos on their site too.

The book Pitchey spoke of is available from Tandy. Google them.

While your at it look up Cas City.

They have a leather forum that is great. That is mostly where I learned how to make them. Here are a couple I have turned out.

You will get hooked and spend all your spare time making leather and stuff for your self and others.

Leather tooling took time and patience for me, but I enjoyed it for several years and haven't done any tooling for a life-time. I have a full set of tools in an oak block in excellent condition with a marble slab and leather mallet. If anyone is interested, send me a PM.
Some guys are really talented and make it look easy!!
