I purchased one march of 2007. The wood is fantastic as well as the finish. I purchased mine for $ 1690.00 with sales tax included. I have not had the heart to shoot it.

How could you spend that much on a new gun and not shoot it?

All it takes is cash and guts. Davidsons have octagon, and half round/half octagon in TD 45:70's. A little over $2000.00 and you are in there big time. Grit your teeth, and go for it.

OK, I'm confused. What is a Davidson Winchester??

Davidson's is a Company that makes large orders of "custom" rifles to their configurations. They seem to have a good idea of what will sell as they tend to have "neat" stuff.

Davidsons is so big and buy so many firearms from various mfr's, that they can get about any special order or caliber, whatever their customers are asking for. I got in 2006 I think it was, a Ruger Super Black Hawk Hunter in 41 mag from Davidson's. At that time there was only 44's in the catalog, the 41's were a special deal with Ruger. They are so big that they hardly can get stuck with an odd caliber, odd as the world might see it, but just what you might be wanting.

CDNN has them listed at $1599. You have to download or get their print catalog to see them.

Guy's, I just checked dealer price on both guns from Davidsons and its $1494.84 for either 1886 model. Look around and find a dealer that will give you a good deal. You can also use the dealer search function on Gunbroker and punch in your area code. There are lots of guys who will order something for a flat fee.

Cubrock is right! CDNN has excellent prices and they DO NOT sell second rate goods, despite what many have claimed. Why could I buy three 1886 ELs, new in the boxes, for $599. ea from them, instead of $1100 like every other source wanted. If I was wanting one of the 1886 TDs, CDNN would get my call.

I actually bought the takedown with the idea of sending it to Turnbull got rechambering to 50-110. It is so pretty, that I can't do it. I have thought about a Turnbull case finish on the reciever and funrnitue and the Winchester horse and rider in gold on the reciever. :D
