I recently bought a Savage 170 Series B 30-30 pump rifle. It finally came today. I knew it had some good wood on it, but this was pleasently surprising. Yes, it is factory wood, but I don't know why or how.
Original purchase pictures are here on the Pump Rifle site.
that is really beautiful flame grain on that stock......bet that rifle is going to be really accurate too.
you did really well in my opinion.....unusual and very nice gun!

That's pretty. Someday I hope to get a 170 Pump .30-30 from my Uncle, but he refuses to kick off...

I had one in .35 Remington with a Weaver K4 on it, and it was remarkably accurate. One-inch three-shot groups with factory ammunition were not uncommon. Interesting rifle based on the .410 version of the Model 77 shotgun. Have read at the Savage Collectors forum that the .30-30's had feeding problems, which led to the gun's demise.. Never experienced ANY with the .35; doesn't seem to make sense that a design originally for a rimmed shell (i. e. the .410) would handle the rimless .35 Remington fine and have problems with the rimmed .30-30...
Enjoy yours. I'd like to have one in .30-30 too to go with my two Marlins, Stevens Model 325, and Savage 340. (I'll pass on a Remington 788 .30-30. Too rich for my blood!)
