OT--Whats Up With Starline?
I need some 45-90, 38-40, 45-70 and some other junk. Seems like Starline is out of just about everything except some weirdo brass like the .460 Roland, whatever that is. I called Starline and the lady says to send the money and they will get it out to me ASAP. Well, I don't work like that.-----I give you money-and you give me product, you know, the American way.

Starline's good folks. I wouldn't worry about putting my order on backorder.

Smart people are putting back the stuff now and buying for the shooting season (have you noticed it is spring). Starline is reliable. Send your money and you'll get your brass.

I was under the impression that they produce their brass 'seasonally', or in batches after an appropriate number of orders comes in, in order to produce the brass as efficiently as possible (enabling good brass for good price).

Yea, I guess you boys are right. Being an Easterner makes one untrusting but here she goes---several C-notes to Starline

Re: OT--Whats Up With Starline?
I've dealt with Starline on the "half ton at a time" level. I've spent hours talking to Robert Hayden Jr, and have an idea how his business works.
It's like this. They have a couple of lines of machinery to make brass. They sell oodles of calibers. Therefore they have to schedule what to make and when to make it based on market demand.
There is a HUGE penalty paid by any business of that size if they end up with too much inventory at tax time (they pay taxes on it's market value, sold or unsold).
The end result is ya buy material on say the first of the month and try to get it turned into product by the end of the month and to the best of your ability, send it out the door sooner, rather than later.
So, sometimes they end up with empty holes, lots of em, in their own warehouse, so their wholesale orders to the "big boys" can be filled, the money turned over to buy more material and amke more brass....
So, yer best bet is to be on the backorder list, because for oddballs, it may be a very long wait until they have excess on hand..... Commodity prices govern the materials, etc, etc, so they ain't playing games. they "turn it and burn it" fast.
They're good folks, the product is worth the price. But yes, when I pay thousands up front and wait months, I chew my nails too, even though I understand why, but it's all good when I got a truck filled with brass to ship to MY customers....

Yes, you're right, hence the mentioned purchases have run the stock down. Most all producers do so.AJMD429 wrote:I was under the impression that they produce their brass 'seasonally', or in batches after an appropriate number of orders comes in, in order to produce the brass as efficiently as possible (enabling good brass for good price).

You were just exaggerating about the .460 Rowland, were'nt you? I and about 3-4 guys at the club have been trying to find some for better part of a year. Too late to call Starline right now. Other buddies won't share theirs.
Magnificent caliber. Beats .44 Mag like a $5 mule.

Jack,
It looks like Buffalo Arms has them. Price is $5 higher than Starline, plus shipping. How much patience do you have?

A couple C notes...and your worried about it, come on Jack I thought that was what you spend on coffee a week.
If I had your money, I'd throw mine away. HA HA
Yeah in the area we live in it makes me nervous too, to send people that much money with a promise to send it when they can. Tom

Adirondakjack---Thank you for the education!
That sure makes sense. It just seems that in the past whenever I needed something, they had it in stock ready to go.
Geobro-- I called Buffalo Arms last week. As of then they did not have it
And................Mr Fordwanna be---If you had my money, you would be applying for free cheese and fuel oil coupons........only
In the Winchester & Colt Dept., you would be taxed...............heavily
Mr Mouthpiece.--I can't figure you out. Your intelligent. Thanks for being you.

Re: OT--Whats Up With Starline?
Sixgun, five or so years ago, I could schedule a run of brass, pay for it, and have it in six weeks. Now it's pushing six MONTHS. Such are the realities of the "cleaving to god and guns" times we've been in since '08.

Probably not. He still thinks .308 is the new kid on the block and smokeless powder is just a passing fad...mouthpiece wrote:You were just exaggerating about the .460 Rowland, were'nt you?
