I had a Springfield GI model that I regretfully sold. What makes me sick about it is that back when I bought it you could get them new for around $350. I bought mine off a guy at work and it was barely used, and I mean barely. I paid $250 for it. Now I don't see them for much under $600. It was bought as a project gun, but I never got around to building it the way I wanted and lost interest. Wish I hadn't......

My daily carry gun for many years, and a duty gun in the '70's - Colt Mk IV Series 70 .45 ACP, factory reblued, Wolff 16 lb. (41916) recoil spring, Crimson Trace grip mounted laser. I have heard many stories about the finger-collet bushing breaking on this model, but I have had nothing but great results. For safety purposes, the barrel bushing was replaced a few years ago with an identical part.

Carry ammo is the standard pressure Federal Tactical HST 45 ACP 230 grain hollow point offering - what I now believe to be the best overall self-defense ammo available. It expands well but can also penetrate heavy clothing or even certain obstacles if necessary, while still expanding. The holster is an inside waistband Bianchi, de-strapped and cut down, with an elk hide strip (taken from an old shoulder holster) added to the body side of the holster to prevent hammer gouge in kidney carry mode. The gun stays snug and out of sight but is quickly put into action.

Matching P14's. I had one years ago but sold it I bought one of these new in 2005. A couple years later I saw the other one on Gunbroker, and could see the serial number in the photos, so I had to buy it. One is serial 21AXY and the other is 21AYX.

A Springer GI and a Para LTC (think Commander). I have been debating for awhile whether to replace the GI sights with the sights they use on their Mil-Spec model. The LTC I don't like. It is a funky purple-blue color, and I had intended to buy a fullsize, but the clerk grabbed the wrong box from the backroom. I didn't check it before I left the store, which is an hour away, so I figured it was my fault. I'd like to get it stripped and parkerized, and replace the grips with wooden double-diamonds.

I replaced the over-length guide rods with proper ones, except the LTC- forgot to add the parts to the order I recently put the checkered flat MSH from the LTC into one of the P14's, to do a side-by-side comparison. I plan to do so this week and next.

I don't have small hands, but I don't believe they are particularly large either. The P14 fits me fine, and actually feels slightly smaller, which is obviously an illusion. The front of the mag well is broader, so my fingers sit flat across it. A standard 1911 is rounded in that area, so my fingers feel like they are resting on a sort of point. Also, the grip feels about the same size as the Beretta 92 I used to have, but of course a 9mm has less recoil.

If you end up buying a P14, you might want a pre-2005, as the power extractor has a reputation for being problematic. In addition, Para reputedly has had some QC issues over the past few years, which they supposedly have corrected. The most recent incarnation does not have the power extractor.

I violated trigger discipline to show the difference in the reach of my trigger finger, but it can't be seen very well in the photo. Besides, the Springer has a shorter trigger. I also noticed, that gripping the P14 in my right hand, my thumb rests atop the magazine release, though I can't depress it. With the Springer there is about a 1/8-inch gap.

This is a Springfield Armory PX9152LP “Loaded” version in .45, with match 5” barrel, low profile adjustable rear, dovetail front Tritium 3 - Dot sights, and all the trimmings. My latest. It was a stretch for me, but I like it.

@ Otto. My Para Ord is a 1640 Signature in 40 S&W. Love this gun. I never had any trouble with any kind of ammo or bullets. It's also a very accurate gun as long as I do my part. The single flyer is my fault. 20 meters Weaver Stance.

My second post, I recon a picture is due. Not the best pic, but first I found, this was the weekend before elk season last fall. Its my favorite carry piece, maybe not the best woods gun, but it is my most comfortable carry, so it seems to find its way around a lot of places. I haven't done a thing to it other than shoot the heck out of it. If it aint broke don't fix it right? Its about a 10 some year old kimber custom II with night sights, and shoots fantastic.

Just a plain jane WW2 Colt with an Ithaca top end. Needs a new barrel, but with 5 grs on Universal CLays and 200 round nose lead will shot fairly well. Had been Parkerized but had it bead blasted before blueing.

Over the years I've had several but this is the only one now. It's a Kimber Custom Shop CDP.
The only change I have made since this picture was taken is it now has a short trigger. Fat fingers and long triggers don't work for me.
