Puma 92 magazine tube knurled end cap

Post by Dockem »

Just curious where I might obtain a knurled/threaded end cap for the magazine tube for a LSI Puma in 45 Colt? Does anyone make them? Mine has a set screw and a large slot in the cap to remove it. Somewhat of a pain to remove quickly.

Dockem,

Welcome to the forum.

Other than the Rossis in .454 Casull I don't know of any other sources for the knurled magazine end cap.
Normally the magazine end cap is rarely removed.

Perhaps someone else will be more knowledgeable than I am about this.

I heard that the loading gate can be tough on the Leverevolution bullets and that certain models of the Puma 92 have a end cap that allows loading from the barrel end of the magazine.
Since I'm using my 45 Colt primarily for hunting purposes, I was curious if I could get this end cap.

Well, I've tried the LEVERevolution rounds in my Marlin 1894 and there was no negative effect to the bullets. Other guns might be different though.
The only lever guns that load through the tube as you described are the Rossis in 454 Casull and 480 Ruger, and the Henry Big Boys (?).

Great round in my Marlin 94 also, took a buck last season with it.

The loading gate in the Puma 92 isn't as friendly w/ the bigger round for my fingers.

The Rossi (.454) with a knurled magazine cap uses an entirely different setup from the other Rossis. The mag has an inner and outter tube exactly like a tube feed .22 rifle. The outter tube is larger that the regular Rossi because of this and I would suspect that the hole in the reciever is also larger.

Moot point, the end cap is like other Rossi's. I was under the assumption that the slot in the end of the cap was due to it being threaded. It isn't. Showing my rookie stripes.
Guess I'll do Steve's gate spring "lighten procedure" and be happy.

I have seen a couple Rossi's OTHER than the .454 Casull and .480 Puma with tube-loading setups; one was a .45 Colt that I didn't buy, and the other was a .44 Magnum that I did buy. Both were Blued.

If you keep looking around, you may find a .45 Colt like that.

The ones I saw were both in a Gander Mountain store in Indianapolis.
