Could I ask a favor of someone here with a Cody membership?
I was out tonight to take a look at a Winchester model 1886, and it just seemed like an odd combination - 40-65 caliber, heavy round barrel, and a 1/2 magazine. The muzzle end looked unnaturally flat, but I haven't seen a lot of 1886s in person, so I wouldn't be a good judge.
If I have the serial number, would it be possible for someone with a Cody membership to look up the factory configuration to see if it's still in factory original condition, or if it's been rebarreled or modified in some way?
This same guy even had about 20 rounds of teatfire ammunition.
The muzzles of 1886s are flat and are not blued. I can probably look it up for you if you shoot me a PM with the complete SN.

Sent you a PM Mike - thanks for your help. It's funny, this guy has well over 100 guns (most shotguns), and the only 2 levers he has - a ratty post-64 Winchester 94 in 30-30, and this beauty of an 1886. Talk about polar opposites.
Yep, it's a dandy. IMM, round barrels are a plus. Although both round and octagon were "standard", the octagon barrels outnumber the round ones by two to one.

Deal was struck, and in a couple days it will be home with me. The bore on this one is dead mint - bright and shiny. Hopefully it'll be a shooter. A Remington model 12C will be coming home at the same time - talk about an odd couple.
