NEW 250 Savage available in 2011 - Savage Arms

Post by t.r. »

According to the 2011 SAVAGE ARMS catalog, two bolt action rifles are available in in 250 Savage.

- walnut stock

- black plastic stock

Winchester's well advertised .243 nailed the coffin lid shut on the 250-3000 about 50 years ago. Sad but true.

But Savage is building 'em again!

I had a Ruger 77R in the 250 Savage cartridge a number of years ago .

WHile it did just fine I liked the 243 you already mentioned as well as the 6mm REM and 257 Roberts better !

And just so happened when I had the 250 Savage I had Ruger 77R's chambered for the other 3 cartridges mentioned at the same time .
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

Yes it sure did.
Just like the 20 ga. left the (better) 16 ga. in the dust for many years.
There is now a resurgence in the old sweet 16 again.

Now if Savage wanted to make me really happy they could make the 99A in 250 again!

Always nice to see the old timers come back around to get some due recognition.

Too bad they didn't bring it back in a model 99.

Have a Remington Model 7 MS from the custom shop I bought used a number of years ago. It looks a bit strange with the laminated stock (I'm a blue steel and WALNUT guy), but it shoots very nicely indeed. I also have a 1920s German guild sxs double rifle in .250 Savage. Cool toy, but I can't really see the sights (leaf sights only) anymore. I keep thinking I should put a set of claw mounts on it, but the price (pushing $1000 these days) gives me a bit of a pause.
