Customized Marlin 336 Cowboy Barrel Question

Post by 38-72 »

I’m building an early Marlin 336 into a long octagon barreled 32-40 “cowboy” style rifle. It will be a lead bullet shooter. Which barrel maker would you all recommend and why?

I've always been partial to Douglas, but I think they quit making anything but round barrels.

You can get Green mountain barrels from Track of the Wolf
Or you can get barrels direct from Green Mountain but they seem to be cheaper from Track of the Wolf but TOTW is out of stock of 32-40 barrels

The 32-40 is a little large as it is in the #2 Winchester Profile 1'' at the flats down to .85'' at the muzzle and 35'' long(maybe you could lop off at the breach end so the octagon is not so large and still have a barrel 26'' or 24'' long)
These octagon barrels are very reasonably priced and very accurate
Hope this helps regards Dallas
These are 27'' octagon pistol calibers

I'll second Nicknack on Green Mountain. I've re-barreled with a couple of them and both were very accurate.
