Marlin Cowboy 336 and 1895 Questions

Post by 38-72 »

Are the outside barrel dimensions for the Marlin Cowboy 336 and 1895 models the same? I need a comparison of the distance across the flats at the breech and muzzle.

Wow...that's a new one. You might need to shoot off an email to Marlin.

AFAIK, while the 336 Cowboy has an octagon barrel, the standard-issue M1895 carries a round barrel - is there an M1895 Cowboy w/octagon bbl ?

My 336 CB and 1895 CB have the same dimensions across the flats within a few thousandths. The breech on the 336 is
.830 and the 1895 breech is .835 across the flats. The 336 is .700 across the flats at the muzzle and the 1895 is .694
across the flats at the muzzle on my pair. The 336 CB is a 38-55 and the 1895 CB is a 45-70 of course. For all purposes
They have the same dimensions within manufacturing tolerances and the rifles I have rebarreled in both models have the
same barrel shank and thread dimensions for both the 336 and the 1895.
Cheers
