OT: Serious Note; Brain Surgery Tomorrow
First I would like to thank everyone here at Levergun forum for making this such an inspirationa, educational and fun website for me. I really enjoy this sight and the knowledge and wisdom I have gleened here.
In addition to suffering from major depression for years other things have been happening to me with thyroid issues, cholesteral issues, blood pressure issues, low testosterone and problems with double vision. Just prior to THanksgiving I had an MRI done on my head. While a lot of people who know me didnt think they would find anything as they were conviced there was nothing in my head anyway, the result of the scan did find something in my head. Unfortunantly it is not good. I have a large tumor in my pituitary gland just over one inch in diameter that is preventing my pituitary gland from functioning. The tumor is around my cortoid arteries and is pushing upwards and compressing my optic nerves. The tumor does not appear to to be bio active. My prolactin level is elevated above normal but my endrocronologist says he, " would expect the prolactin level to be much higher than it is based upon the size of the tumor if it was a producing tumor."
Assuming the surgery goes well, my prognosis is relatively good. The tumor was caught early enough that when removed my optical nerves and eyesight should recover. Then I will likely be on hormone replacement therapy for the rest of my life.
Anyway, my surgery is scheduleded for tomorrow, February 16th in Wichita. I ask for and solicit anyones thoughts and especially prayers tomorrow.
Again I thank you all for putting up with me on the forum and for your thoughts, prayers and support. May God Bless You All.

Wow - prayers up = Godspeed.
This sounds like it could really be a good thing as you are being given the opportunity to fix your eyesight which will improve your life overall.

Done for you and the Docs.
FWIW my neice was diagnosed with a brain tumor when she was 12. 7-9 brain surgeries later (plus a couple of related but non-brain surgeries) she's a healthy 22 year old. It's flat out amazing what they can do nowadays. A bunch of prayers didn't hurt either...

Re: OT: Serious Note; Brain Surgery Tomorrow
I am late in coming onto this thread, but you have the best wishes of my family and me.
We have had our share of similar stuggles in and near our family in recent years and understand what you and your family are going through.
You will definitely be in our hearts and minds.
Heal quickly and hang in there.

Prayers up.
Anyway, always be vigilant and work closely with a good primary care physician.
Some melanomas (the deadly and not-very-sun-related skin cancer vs. the common and sun-related ones) seem more common in folks with a history or family history of certain kinds of brain tumors, so be ESPECIALLY vigilant of any darkening or odd skin lesions, even in non-sun-exposed areas - (4 or 5 of the melanomas I've removed during 23 years of practice were in areas a 'g-string' would cover; one had seen her gynecologist a couple weeks before and she didn't see anything she was concerned with!)awp101 wrote:FWIW my neice was diagnosed with a brain tumor when she was 12. 7-9 brain surgeries later (plus a couple of related but non-brain surgeries) she's a healthy 22 year old.
