Shotgun

Post by poisonivie »

OK, guys, I know this is not a levergun but I'll bet some of you can help me. I've got an old NR Davis sidehammer double in 16ga. I bought it off GB for a wallhanger. When it came it, I was shocked at the pristine condition. The gun is probably 85%. As near as I can tell, it was made somewhere around 1900-1910. There is no serial number, as Davis did not number some of their earlier guns. It is not damacus, but good steel, with shiny bores. I have shot it with modern ammo but it does not fire reliably, sometimes taking 4 blows of the hammer to fire. Anyone know a good gunsmith with knowledge of this type firearm, possibly in N Tx area?

I would jump on 86er's offer. You luckily fell into a nice old shotgun and is in the right guage.
Plenty of ammo out there to shoot through it that are smaller payloads and lower pressure.
RST, Polywad come to mind. Kent Game Bore also. New Era Ammo will load some for you too.

Load your own? Lots of possibilities, I am assuming it is short chambered??
