Rossi 92 rifle forestock

Post by CarlsenHighway »

Gentlemen,

I have a Rossi .44/40 24 inch Octagonal barrel rifle.

I dont actually have it with me at the moment, hence my question, but how is the forearm and metal cap attached to the barrel?

If a man wanted to take that forestock and shorten it by an inch or two, how much trouble would I have to go to?

Contact this fellow. He's THE expert on Rossi's. He does great work if you really want to improve your rifle.

First why , and the way I see it a lot of trouble. The forend cap is mounted to the barrel, hence it would have to be moved back and the scar from the previous position filled in and blued to match. U must have a burning desire to do such a thing.

IIRC, the retainer is held in a dovetail cut into the barrel.
Kind regards,

Some folks don't care for the extra long fore ends. The Rossi forend is about an inch or so longer than the original 92. It's not too noticeable on the 24" but the 20" octagon looks odd.
here's the 20". The barrel looks like it's been just cut off.

Here's the 24". It look more proportional.

Here's a 20" with the forewood moved back. It may look short to some but it's now the same as the 20" short rifle Winchesters.

To do this the forend cap tennon has to be moved back into a new dovetail. Then the old dovetail has to be filled.

Moved back (ie original Win location) sure does look better, I agree.
