Hi guys. This past summer while visiting my brother in Brunswick, I took a ride south and wound up in Folkston Ga, just north of the Fla line. There I stopped in a store that specialises in bow hunting and struck up a conversation with the owner about the possibility of hog hunting in the area. He assured me that were I to come back with gun and gear that he could fix me up with a place to go hog hunting. After leaving Ga and returning to my home State of Vermont he and I coresponded quite a bit about the hog hunt. Just before Thanksgiving he became unreachable. I don't know if he died, moved or what.
Me and a friend had planned the hog hunting trip down that way for the week of Feb 27 and have arrainged vacation from work and are kind of locked into that week and will not be able to change the dates with the boss.
So my question is, are there any Levergunners down that way that might know of some landowners who would let a couple of respectable strangers shoot a hog or 2 on their property during that time period? We of course could/would provide ID and references in advance.
Thanks,
John Bourbon Jr

Re: South Ga/North Fla hog hunters.....
Hopefully, someone will chime in here with a good reference for you. Unfortunately, I don't have one anymore, but here is my experience in that area....
When I lived in Waycross Ga...(just up the road from Folkston) pretty much all of the local hunting ground was taken up by private clubs..many of their members coming North from Florida to hunt.
On the plus side....there are a number of pay-to-"hunt" operations in that area. Some of them are way to overblown and specialize in getting Yankees down there for the "hunt-of-a-lifetime" experience. If you do some research...you should be able to find a couple that offer more realistic ( and realistically priced) opportunities to shoot a pig or two. When I lived there, I quickly figured out the only way to get any serious woods time was to join a local club or two with good leased land. Doing so allowed me to spend a lot of time in the woods, and keep my home freezer filled with venison and hog meat. It's a GREAT place to live and hunt. We never made too much out of hog hunting. For the most part, we ran'em with chase dogs, and caught'em live. On cool Fall evenings local folks go out into the Swamp and have competitive "Bayings" to see who has the best chase dogs. Without dogs...you put out corn, (allow it to sour so the deer don't eat it)...and sit in a stand. When the hogs come in to eat...you pick out the one you want. I've been away from there for 6 yrs. I had to get back to the ocean, and moved to Florida. When I got HERE...I asked everyone the same question..."Where do we hunt???"..
To a MAN, the answer I always got back was "Georgia"...!!!
There is a private club or two down here in Florida. I called one not too far from me and was told the YEARLY membership was 6,000 bucks. Well...that pretty much killed that.
Good Luck...If you get to Georgia...you might not want to leave.

Re: South Ga/North Fla hog hunters.....
I'll give you a full day hog hunt with dogs and swamp buggy, guaranteed shot opportunities for $150 per hog. I have to pay the guides, feed the dogs and put gas in the buggy. This price is just about cost on this. Central Florida location. Let me know if you are interested. BTW - I lived in Brunswick for a few month in the mid 90's and I fish the Golden Isles every year. I know quite a few other folks and places around the area, but nothing that would be close to a sure thing, especially this time of year. A lot of the public places in Georgia prohibit baiting and w/o dogs the odds of success are pretty low. In the spring and fall you can get hogs on food plots. This time of year the turnips have died and the legumes are not nutritional so the hogs quit hitting the food plots. If you travel 4.5 hours from Brunswick into the Sunshine State, I'll show you a great time and get you your hogs!

High 86er. I live in Columbia, SC and everything around here is tied up in "membership waiting" status. These clubs only want so many members and you have to be invited to join. Most cost several $ thousand a year to join. My sister lives in Melbourne, Fl and I visit her often. How far away are you from there? I would be interested in popping a bar-b-que size one. Thanks!
