Way Way OT ? thought to Ponder
My Wife just talked to Her Brother who lives 35 miles from Us. She told Me He likes His Caller ID cause He doesn't have to answer if H doesn't want to. Now I have always said that if the Phone rings it means Someone is calling U. That got Me to thinking, granted there R times when it would have been nice to know Who is calling.
But here is the Gist of My Post. I have lived in My presen location for 20 years tomorrow. I don't have Caller ID and never have. That is $5 a month I can put somewhere else. Not much Money U say. Look at it this way-$5 a month X 12 months is $ 60 per Year. Still not a whole Lot.But I have been here for 20 years. That Folks works out to $ 1200.00. Different story now Huh.
Now what to do with that Money, I'll run this By the Mrs.and Maybe end up with a Win mod 92 in 32-20.
And a Plus- I Quit Smoking almost 40 Years ago. PTL. I remind Her of this quite often when I want to buy a Gun. Tomorrow is Her Birthday so I will spend some Gun Money on Dinner tonite. Logans Roadhouse in Chico.
I know , I have too much time on My hands. Just thought I would share this. Maybe U can use it on Your better Half.lol

You're doing it backwards.
Buy the gun. Sneak it in when she ain't looking. If you make it two days or more before she says, "When did you get that gun?" you can honestly say, "I've had it 'a while'". Sometimes you can get 4 or 5 guns before she notices one. The other 3 or 4 are freebies

If she really gets pushy and asked where you got the money to buy it (or heaven forbid, how much it cost), then you tell her about the money you wisely saved by not paying for CID when you're gonna answer the phone anyway. Save the other stories for later; the stories about how much moolah you saved by not getting HBO, not drinking cognac, not eating caviar, not having internet (or texting) on your cell phone...Better yet, don't have the cell phone. Then she can't track you down at the gun range or the gun store. But that's another thread.
Take her to dinner anyway. You don't want to risk a divorce and losing half your guns to her new BF to shoot after you sacrificed so much for them. Life is hard for an addict.

I rather like caller ID, especially on the cell phone. I feel it's worthwhile to me. I also block non showing numbers.
Many times I simply look to see who's calling, and decide I don't need to talk to them at that exact moment (some people simply don't listen, like when you tell them you're hanging on to rafters on a roof, on someone elses time, and you have to go,....). They can leave a message, or I'll call them back later. I figure my phones are for my convenience, not anyone elses. If it's an emergency, they can leave a message, or if it's the house phone, I'll screen the calls with the machine. If they don't leave a message, it must not have been important. Often I don't call people back that don't leave a message. I hate hangups that dont leave mesages. Many times I've run in to catch the phone, the machine starts to get it, and they hang up before I can even answer it. Now, I dont run. I really hate when someone calls the home phone, hangs up on the machine, then calls my cell. I often dont answer then either. I was going to make a comment at this point that alluded to a round grooved fastener followed by the word "em", but decided not to. I'm a very relaxed, easy going person, but some peoples phone habits and etticete (sp?) annoy me severely.

Walk into the house with the gun and a disgusted look. Set it in the corner in plain sight and say to the wife.."darn, I tried to sell this cheap piece of junk at the gunshow but there were no takers."

Caller ID? I've always had the attitude that if I answer it, I'm only encouraging them to call again.
Earlier days, pre-cell, when phone rang at dinner kids would get up to answer. Told them to sit and eat. If important, they would call back. If not, I'm not pushing away from the table to talk to someone reading a script from a call center.
We have a copper line in our house now, but only because my wife wants it. I'd drop it in a heartbeat if she would let me.

I have been a member for a while, but do not post much. I read a lot, though. When I saw your post about going to Logan's in Chico, I laughed to myself because I was in Chico yesterday. Unfortunately, it was for a funeral of an old family friend at the Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home. She left behind her husband of 65 years and her two daughters and their families. I attended with my mother and two of my brothers. It was a nice occasion as these things go. Saw numerous old friends and we all realized that we're all getting older(I just turned 57 on the 15th), but then I remember that I have a 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son at home in Cottonwood, so I can't be that old.

Re: Way Way OT ? thought to Ponder

Are you sure it still cost extra for caller id? It's free on the services I use for home, cell & business.
In fact, I'd have to pay to eliminate it from one of my phone accounts Kinda l ike ordering a car with crank window regulators these days.
