USAA insurance. If you are a child of a veteran...
I found out over the weekend that I can get USAA insurance (which is excellent) as I am a child of a veteran. I did not know that being a child of a veteran qualified you for this. Dang! All of these years I could have been saving money.
AND... USAA covers firearms like any other household item. Most all other insurance companies do not - either they don't cover them or require a really expensive rider policy.
Just thought I'd mention this in case there are others here that didn't know this...

I love USAA. I use them for my vehicles and my renters policy. Outstanding service.

I currently work for USAA as a catastrophe insurance adjuster. Excellent company from a claims perspective (high deductibles though in sensitive areas of the country --- ouch )

I've been a member for close to 30 years and did not serve either.......my father did. ALL my insurance products are carried through them.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I served but an happy with my current provider, State Farm. My dad was a career officer and didn't use USAA either. I doubt that they could save me a significant enough amount to be worth changing everything.

We do a lot of work for USAA as insurance restoration contractors. They take really good care of their people.
Mike,
It's not just about premiums. You'll find out if you ever have a serious claim, State Farm can be devils to work for.

Pete,
I'll bet dollars to donuts that you can get on with them now. I just did last year and I've been out since '94. I was with AIG/21st Century through the NRA program, and USAA soundly beats them on price/service.
In fact, I did it all online, easy-greasy. Didn't have to provide a DD-214 either, which I found sort of strange.
Best,
Scott

I shop around now.....I personally found Travelers to be cheaper than the USAA thru Progressive for my truck. Progressive remains cheaper for the motorcycle.

Re: USAA insurance. If you are a child of a veteran...
As a vet NCO I've had USAA coverage since I separated in 98 (in 10yrs). They cover our houses/cars/motorcycles.
Had class 3 water damage while we were gone for 3wks over Christmas vacation. Came home on 1/10/11 and the mold and must was outrageous. Good bit of personal loss and structure damage.
USAA has been on top of it every step of the way. Less than 2wks and we have already received our personal loss check and the re-construction /water-extraction contractor has already been approved for all repairs.
They will even cover our hotel stay / food expenses during the construction period this month.
As someone stated earlier, the deductible was pretty high, though.

Allstate is good.....I check and shop every renewal these days. Progressive won last time. I think the difference was not having a locked garage. I just have a covered carport.txpete wrote:tubbs check allstate for bike ins.they beat progressive by 100.00 + and I have been with progressive since 96.

been a USAA guy since 1972 for vehicles and house. On the few occasions I've needed 'em, they've treated me right.

USAA never wanted me as an NCO or as a retiree until a year or so ago. Now I get advertisements and offers every week. Guess they need the buisness.

Re: USAA insurance. If you are a child of a veteran...
I have been with USAA from 86 on when I became an O. I had State Farm on the house until one of the guys I put in prison got out. He burglarized my house to try to get even and State Farm returned what I had paid for the replacement cost premium rather than pay replacement cost on the items stolen, 5 of which were guns. Telling me they had made a mistake for the last two years taking my money for the claim protection that houses in that area could not be covered for…

Well, my Dad was a Staff Seargant in the AF in Korea. He was stationed at a base and handled the radar.
I'm just happy as pelosi that I can get my modest collection covered without a big fricking deal or extra hoop jumping, etc.
Every insurance company should follow suit.

Re: USAA insurance. If you are a child of a veteran...
I won't do Progressive, whatever the price. Peter Lewis is tight pals with George Soros and shares his anti-gun/freedom leanings and activities. Not that I'm a fan of the show, but Progressive won't allow its ads to be run during Glenn Beck's show. That's a not-so-subtle hint as to what they're about.

Recently recapitalized with substantial financial backing from China. Inurance industry rfers to 'em as 'WalMart' insurance.timkelley wrote:USAA never wanted me as an NCO or as a retiree until a year or so ago. Now I get advertisements and offers every week. Guess they need the buisness.

My prediction is they will go the way of GEICO within a decade (which stands for Government Employees Insurance Company )timkelley wrote:USAA never wanted me as an NCO or as a retiree until a year or so ago. Now I get advertisements and offers every week. Guess they need the buisness.

I always thought it stood for "Guaranteed Expensive Insurance COmpany"... at least every time I compared it did...Streetstar wrote:My prediction is they will go the way of GEICO within a decade (which stands for Government Employees Insurance Company )timkelley wrote:USAA never wanted me as an NCO or as a retiree until a year or so ago. Well, I will find out this weekend - or early next week as the case may be - as I can get ahold of them and compare to my current (SF) coverage.
Of course, I will be adding $600 to the annual to cover the extra NRA rider that I have to pop for...
