OT- 30-30 Christmas Present

Post by Bearhands »

I'm a happy guy!..... I received a Pre-WWII Savage mod 219 w/a matching mod 220 12 ga barrel :D for Christmas! I've been jones'n for this puppy for a long time. I'm hoping to hear from anyone else who has one. I'd like to use "pointy bullets" in it but not an overly hot round as I don't wanna hurt the ole girl..... A scope is not in the picture as this vintage 219 does not have slots for one, plus it's just too good lookin to add a "handle" to it. I'll post pictures after I refinish the walnut stock (someone did a not-so-nice refinish job some time ago). Anyone have experience or thoughts about this fine rifle/shotgun?

Bearhands,
If the stock does not work out, I have a walnut aftermarket stock for this model.
It is plain, but so where the originals.
Had the action, got the stock; never found a barrel.

Well, I have shot them in .22 Hornet and .30-30 and own a Tenite stocked 94. Every once in a while they come into the shop, usually very worn and long used. You don't see this model in long-time closet condition, i.e. pristine, as they were bought to be used and were.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I would say they have racked up an impressive success ratio.

Congratulation on a really fine little single shot 30-30. I saw alot of them in the woods when I was growing up. By the time I decided I needed one they were already scarce.

Well.... a bit of disappointment and some joy......

The firing pin seems to be striking too softly  I had to fire each round at least twice...... the third round..... I gave up after 4 tries. I guess I'll have to take it to someone who's a bit familiar w/ the set up.

The good news is... the two that fired we're 1/2" apart with one dead center bullseye. :D (mind you @ 25 yrds).... After the pin or spring or whatever is fixed, I'll move to 50, then 100. I'm hoping that it's just a little "goo" that is preventing the pin from completing it's task!
