OT- How about a 1911 for 2011?????
Ok this will mark the 100 years for the 1911 so how about a group buy?
Maybe with a special bit of engraving and a limited edition. Not something that would break the bank. Keep it simple and affordable, nothing fancy so as many people as possible here on the board could afford them.

I have a prewarII ONE WITHOUT the grip safety. The trigger pull is like breaking a glass rod. No need for a MODERN one.

I have a 1944 Remington Rand along with a 2010 Springfield GI
thats pretty much going to be it for me but I'm interested in seeing what everybody decides on maybe with some kind of tribute to John Moses Browning engraved and inlaid with some gold sorta like they did with Winchester 94 commemorative they did this year.

I might consider a Springfield, but as for Colt...ahhhh...think I'll pass.

I like the idea, but by the time one of those arrived in Oz it would probably run to well over $2000.
I think I might just have to settle for a Norinco or RIA 1911, and do my own engraving on the grip panels

I wasn't thinking of anything flashy. Just a quiet thank you.

That's a cool idea, if you could get enough people to agree on something. The 1911 has been a much used platform by me, for around 30 years. I don't know If I would be in or not, a I already own several, but you never know.

Have planned for several years now on getting Y2K his own 1911 in 2011.
For me, a Para-Ordnance "Super-Hawg" has been on the list for quite some time. It is a 14-shot with a long-slide. But at over 10 C-notes, I am in no hurry!

Have one of the RIAs. Decent accuracy and goes bang everytime with ranger 230gr. hollowpoints. A LOT of gun for a little money.gundownunder wrote:I like the idea, but by the time one of those arrived in Oz it would probably run to well over $2000.

Nighthawk for me please !! After handling a few of the other boutique brands, i like the Nighthawk the best. Already have a Springfield GI and an RIA (the RIA has been more reliable than the Springer for me) --- the super zoot Nighthawk would round out my collection and would be the last 1911 i would ever need (famous last words
)

I have 7 colt 1911's -- various finishes, but all standard size. I don't think I have room for another

I've got the one my great uncle carried in France in 1918. It's been in our family for 92 years now. I have others but none I treasure more that it.
