OT- Aladdin Stanley Stainless Steel Thermos Died

Post by Shasta »

I thought this might be of interest to you guys since just about everybody has one. I have a one quart Aladdin Stanley stainless steel thermos bottle that ceased to keep my coffee hot for even a couple hours. It was made in 1986, per the date stamp on the bottom. I knew they claimed a lifetime warranty, so I did the old Google search and found their customer service.

I emailed them with the problem and the serial number on the bottom of the thermos. The next day I got a reply email from a real person! She is

Gina Badilla Consumer Support Specialist

DIRECT 206 923 9861 - FAX 206 441 2823

PMI - Aladdin - Stanley - www.pmi-worldwide.com

She politely explained that the one quart model was currently unavailable, and asked if a 1.4 quart model would be an acceptable substitute? YEP! :D

Sure enough, yesterday I received my new thermos via UPS, free shipping and I didn't even have to send in the old thermos. Now that is great customer service!!

If you believe the old saying that "every cloud has a silver lining" then so must every silver lining have a cloud. My new thermos was marked "Made in China".

I can attest the large construction size model that holds about 1.5 liters will go ballistic the length of a Humvee interior, take some dents and not leak or crack.

Mine did it twice.

My dad always liked his Stanley thermos. He had one. When mom died we never thought that we should pursue the warranty on his battered thermos. I think it went to the charity shop. I also didn't know that Stanley WAS Alladin! (had to google it) I remember Dad going to work every morning with his baloney sandwich wrapped in waxed paper and his Thermos full of coffee.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Yes, the Stanley thermos used to be awsome, but now it is made in China unfortunately. I needed a new thermos for hunting this year and went looking, only to find that there are no thermoses made in the US anymore. Oh well I guess it will go well with the jap Miruku rifle, chinese made under armor and chinese Danner boots oh and don't forget the chinese Gerber knife . Ok rant is over.

Hobie the camera picture in my mind after reading your post:

A young dad out there on the fist day of deer season;
That same well used Stanley thermos.
A baloney sandwich wrapped in wax paper.
Wearing a Woolrich red & black plaid hunting outfit.
A Winchester Model 94 30WCF or 32spl. In his hand.

“AND ALL AMERICAN MADE”.

Yep my first one lasted over 20 years. When it went under I called an 800 number and a brand new made in China arrived in a few days. Too bad the made in China version only lasted a mater of months. I just canned it.

What a coincidence
I bought mine about 20 years ago and it spent a few years in the shed as I didn't need it.
When I got it out a couple months ago it was dead.
I'll have to ring them and see if I get a real warranty or an "over there" warranty.
