bit the bullet for original '73

Post by longarm4146 »

I went and done it. Sold and traded some other pieces to get this: 1903 vintage musket (44-40) in 70% condition with pristine bore. Came with bayonet and cleaning rods. I know muskets aren't the most popular 73 but to get a shootable 73 in this shape was too good of a deal to turn down. Was shooting it at 12" plate at 150 yds and ringing it regularly. I wish I knew how to post pics, but I believe I'll rack up some style points at next cowboy shoot with that and vintage 1887 lever shotgun, making lots of smoke. Gotta start loading for the old Winny now.

Get a photobucket account - upload pictures from your computer. Then copy what is listed as the IMG code under the picture there and paste it into your post and voila! A picture! I think this model is a 66 though.

Well, you can scan them in or take them from a digital camera.

Longarm4146, good on you. I had to settle for an Uberti '73 in 38 WCF.

OS, how much did that one cost you.

I actually traded one of my 3 uberti 73s, a 30" deluxe, fire blue model and little less than a grand boot.......this is a good investment, although if the right deal comes around for a 24" 73 rifle or and original hi-wall in the right caliber comes along then it may have to go. The 30" was so nice that I rarely shot it in matches, usually when I shot my colts and never with the smokey stuff. that fire/charcoal blue is very thin and delicate.

OS,
You gotta stop posting those pics of Miss Lovely. I'm beginning to despise my wife.! :D

Oh, this post??? What was it about? Oh! The 73 musket. Longarm, (you must be a Jeep Wrangler guy) a 73 musket is desirable. Especially with a nice bore. Most I have seen had nice bores as they must have been in storage for eons of years. A buddy of mine had a 99% specimen which he sold for 27 c-notes 10 years ago.---------Sixgun

i see a real problem with this pic posting stuff. I've been working pretty hard the last couple of years and have accumulated two 94s in 38-55, a TD model and a SRC (which are pretty hard to come by) an 86 and first year marlin 95 in 40-65, a really nice 1887 winny shotgun, and a nice grade 3 Remington 1889 and i really don't want to take a chance of losing them to my wife over posting pics like the OS one.hehehe
Sixgun, yep got my first Wrangler back in the summer (closest thing to mid-life crisis) but at least I can drive it in 8 inches of snow, not like my other buddies who all bought Harleys. And i really got lucky on this as it's part of a friends collection and he decides to get rid of his 44-40s, and stick with 38-40s. a standard rifle in the condition of this gun would hve been unthinkable on a retired cops money......

I’m rather fond and sold on this model 65, but that model 66 is a hot little number. 8)

Maybe this'll help. This is a JPEG so you can print it out and keep it next to you while you get going.

And just to show you it works, here's a matched set of model 999s to feast yer eyes on. No beach or pool for these gals -- they got work to do. :)

Out at my place it was 2º Mike. In town it was a balmy 9º. Since last Friday, I've had a foot and a half of snow at my place too. Suppose to get some more snow Saturday.

Very nice '66 Fred.

She's in excellent shape.
