OT - 50BMG and levers

Post by bsaride »

Went to the range today despite the rain. Couple friends and bro setup and shot
some rimfires, 7mag bolt, handguns, no pics. then more showed up and moved
to another spot where we shot the 50BMG and I pulled out the 44Mag and 45-70
levers. we were busy shooting and didn't take hardly any pics except for the 50.

My nephew has a .50 BMG rifle and I have shot it some. Not as bad as I thought it would be. I think the fact that it weighs about 25 pounds and has the muzzle brake of a Sherman tank helps it a lot!

That .30 BMG really didn't look like it recoiled much at all, vs other videos I've seen... different bipod setup maybe?

Yeah, no recoil on the .50 when tripod mounted. I think he said it was a M2HB.

Yep M2HB when it has to be stopped right now! The correct way to fire that thing is sitting on your but with your legs draped over the rear legs of the tripod. To sight it you just lean back until you can line up the sights adjust the T&E then sit back up and let fly. :D

[DQM ON]
Is that M-2 modified for single-shot use somehow, or is there a selector...?

Don't think so, we were shooting semiauto slowfire. I did see him load a single round
without a link and fire it. This was my first time and was taking some video when he
was setting it up.

Your location says Southern CA. How did you manage to shoot a 50 BMG in CA?

Forget pumpkins. You ought to see what one of those will do to an old HMMWV chassis :D

There are semiauto modified M2's out there as well as M1919/M1917s.

A standard M2, can (not sure how, but it's been done) set for single shot. Hathcock made his famous 2,000 yard shot in Vietnam using an M2 with a scope attached to it (home-rigged) set on single shooting from a firebase tower.

There is a catch that goes over trigger that when engaged puts the gun in a single fire mode. pop the catch and you are back to full auto.

I've shot a Barrett, the one time i had access to an M2 it had sear problems and wouldn't fire.

My weapons of choice were the M249/M240 when I didn't have an M4 and/or an M203.
