Just picked up the Euroarms 1873 Winchester 44/40 I had been looking at. But it has some problems. The whole barrel is overtightend a bit. I didn't see this in the shop, but it was obvious once outside. The sights are leaning to the left, the extractor is toughing the right side of the cut, and the mag tube is offset to the right at the muzzle. It also missfires, light stricking the primers about every other round. Tried three factory loads, same result.
Who is a good smith to send this to?
thanks, Rob

I'll second Nate. You might take the stock off (2 screws, 1 - thru the tang and 1 - under the lever into the wood), and check to see if the mainspring is just loose. The barrel & mag tube issues need a pro, or very well equipped hobbiest.J Miller wrote:Rob,

hi Rob,
You may be able to make it shoot yourself. that gun should have a hammer spring strain screw. This screw is there so the Hammer spring tension can be adjusted. This is the screw there on the bottom of the lower tang just in front of the hammer spring screw? First thing to do is take the buttstock off then back off the strain screw so that the tip is flush with the inside of the lower tang. Then loosen the spring screw then lightly tighten the hammer screw then back off a half to one turn. Do this because the strain screw won't work if the hammer screw is tight. Now tighten the strain screw to lift the front of the hammer spring. The strain screw acts as a pivot point for the spring. This will give you more hammer spring. Start out with the lest amount of hammer spring then tighten the strain screw until you get consistant ignition.
This will get you the minimum hammer spring.
