Rossi 92 loading gate jam

Post by PEteacher »

I have three Rossi 92s - 20"blue .454, 16" blue .45Colt, and blue 24" .357 rifle, all bought new, and all with top safety. With the .454 and the .357, I have had problems with the loading gate getting pushed out, locking up the action. To clear the jam, I removed the magazine spring and follower (simple on the .454), dumped out the remaining rounds, and was able to push the loading gate back in with minimal pressure.

I thought it might be cartridge overall length, using .38 specials in the .357, but it continued when I long loaded .38s to .357 magnum length, AND it happened with .357 magnums also.

It has only happened once with the .454, and I cannot remember if I was using .45 Colts (probably) or .454 Casull ammo.

Any suggestions?

Pushed OUT?? I don't understand. The loading gate spring prevents it from moving outward.

Cartridge stop problem? May need adjusting.

:?: "Pushed out" makes no sense to me. Photo please.

My new rossi in 38/357 has a similar probvlem. While the gate is not pushed out, if freezes in place and cannot be depressed. It seems to be stuck on the rim of the last round loaded. Banging on the opposite side of the receiver with my fist seems to alleviate the problem temporarily.

What he is saying is the loading gate is popping out of the frame because it's poorly fitted from Rossi. When that happens the round can get by the stop on the carrier and jam up the works.
The fix is to fit a new longer loading gate.

I had a Winchester NRA Centennial that did that.
