OT - Do you like violin music?

I like fiddle music.

There's a band called Barrage out of Canada that travels the world playing and teaching great music. Young, energetic and full of life. Six fiddles, guitarist, bass guitarist and drummer.

They play mostly at high schools and for potentates. From what I can tell, they spend time with a schools strings and then the night of the show, the strings get up on stage with the band and play a tune.

If they play near you, go see them. Two great hours.

Never gave it much thought before, but now both my kids are playing Violas & I find alot of it very good.

I like the Fiddle and the Violin. One of the best evenings in my life as attending a concert by Pearlman in Tel Aviv.

I have always enjoyed listening to fiddle and violin. The lead in the Barrage video is cute .

Very much so. The guy I went with is her age and quite smitten. He's the one who turned me on to their music several years ago. He's been listening to their first CD since 2000 but had never seen them. This was my second show.

It's worth the price of admission just to see the high schoolers get up on stage and play a zippy song with professionals. You could tell it was motivating for the students.

The sad part is that I am 53 years old. My 35 yo son and my 26 yo daughter are more mature than me. I just like that acid rock but...mostly the older acid rock. The new head banger stuff is a little rough. And YES, my pants are pulled up, my Redwings are laced up and I don't use no jerry-curl------------Sixgun

I probably dislike these w kids running around like the others more than anyone. I have seen w kids with their pants around their knees.

I am old school in my way of thinking

I'll go as far to say that I have walked up to w. kids who fit this profile and ask them if they are confused.

My wife teaches fiddle along with all other stringed insturments, piano, and voice. My son was the Florida sate Fiddle Champion for 2 years in a row.

Pretty cool, thanks. I hadn't looked at your links earlier.

My grandfather, God rest his soul, played all the string instruments but loved the bass fiddle & mandolin best. It just came natural to him I guess.
He played the bass & mandolin in a band but chose a banjo most often during family stuff.
He also played the trumpet, trombone, bugle, piano, clarinet & sax.

I sure miss that old guy but it does my heart good seeing his great grandkids appreciating music.

I always liked it when some guy asked Chet Atkins if he could actually read sheet music. he replied "well, not so much that it affects my pickin' any". It is interesting just how smooth, and totally talented these folks can become. Les Paul was that way, just no end to coming up with a new twist with his music. These young gals will be millionaires in no time, pleasing and entertaining folks like us.

I'm glad I get a chance to promote my cousin and her family, the Druckenmillers. They are out of Allentown, PA and Tom and Betty's son, Nathan, is a talented musician. You guys in eastern PA can easily go hear them in person!

It makes me very happy to see folks make it in music. Most talented musicians, even with an advanced performance degree, learn to say: Do you want fries with that? There is maybe one full time tuba gig in this area, The Seattle Symphony, and that is and will be locked up for decades by those few world class fellas........ Being excellent is just not enough anymore
