Price check on Browning 1886
Now ,for now, I have all the Marlin's I want. So, I now have a itch for a 1886 Browning rifle. Browning because of the lack of tang safety and rebounding hammer. I'm sure they go for a premium I want one but I am not willing to pay a crazy price. What is a fair price for one according to condition I also should throw in that someone does the modification on the new Winchesters that eliminates the lawyer gunk. Now to compare both rifles with - as is Browning or "fixed Winchesters"! What do you think
Re: Price check on Browning 1886
Price range on fired Brownings is $1000 to $1500 and the price on NIB Winchesters is $1000 to $1300 and the parts for conversion are about $130.
Kind regards,
Tycer

I wrote Turnbull Restorations about a year ago,I inquired about haveing a new USRAC extra lite 45-70 converted back.they weld up the tang, color-case the reciver and install the correct half cock hammer and trigger work. If I rember right it was $900.00 for the conversion.
Re: Price check on Browning 1886
Hmmm. $900 for what amounts to an hour's mechanical work and $125 in parts? I don't think so.

Mike-
He did specify welding the tang and case hardening I assume the entire receiver.

Yea, but they are a 'restoration' house so they feel that they can charge more.Mike D. wrote:Hmmm. $900 for what amounts to an hour's mechanical work and $125 in parts? I don't think so.

Mike Hunter did the work for a lot less than Turnbull's price. I don't believe that he is currently welding the tang safety holes, though.

My bet is the $900 included a color case finish. They quote $300 for the conversion alone.
