I guess I'm unAmerican but I've never had much interest in the 10-22s.

They aren't "classics" (yet), but they ARE kind of "The AR-15's of the Rimfire World". Lots of accessories, some degree of 'modularity', and despite being mass-produced, VERY good accuracy potential.J Miller wrote:I guess I'm unAmerican but I've never had much interest in the 10-22s.
I guess the Garand and the Marlin 39A belong on one shelf (both are awesome guns), and the AR-15 and 10/22 on another (also both great guns).

Re: OT - If you don't know what gun to buy today...
Actually, I have two 10/22s and now they just sit unused. For a ton of fun these days, my little Henry carbine gets the nod. It is just a hoot to shoot and because it's a levergun, I find I get the same enjoyment shooting only about 1/3 the ammo. In fact, I'm considering getting another Henry but this time it will be the Frontier version (longer octagon bbl and better sights) and adding a tang sight on it. If you don't have a 22lr levergun, you've got to get one cause they are just great fun.

Next Wed I pick up My Browining Lever 22. I had one years ago but had to sell it. This is a used one but for the money it will do.It is drilled and tapped for a scope.Has a couple little dings and scratches but the blue is good. We will see how it shoots.

Got a stainless and black one in the deep recesses of The Gun Shop, needs money to spring it but the Freedom Arms and the B92 NIB 44 Mag stepped in line in front of it - however - upcoming birthday funds may be used for the 10/22.

Is Blain the only one to get this? October 22 (10-22)?

Re: OT - If you don't know what gun to buy today...
Recently I used my 10/22 at an Appleseed shoot. I shot about 300 rounds out of it over 1.5 days with the rifle being exposed to high 90's between target checks. It functioned well, but it did want to walk out one of the barrel screws--no problem just added some blue thread locker. I will say the stock rear iron sight ain't worth much for consistency from my eyes. I plan to fix that with a sight set from http://www.tech-sights.com/

Re: OT - If you don't know what gun to buy today...
I picked up my Ruger Mark III Hunter today that I had ordered. While at another store today I ended up buying a Ruger Single Six Convertable in .22 LR and .22 WMR also in stainless steel.
Wow this disease has really taken a hold of my. After shooting, I am very impressed with both handguns. Might need to get a red dot scope for the Mark III though.

The little 1" tube Millet ones are nice for that, although for a bit more dough, the Burris FastFire-II's are awesome. I think maybe there is even a dovetail-base available which allows you to mount it where the rear sight goes. I just use the Millet on rings on one of those mounts that replaces your left pistol-grip and yields a Weaver base in the normal position (actually mine is high enough I can still see the regular sights with it on).Beaker wrote:Might need to get a red dot scope for the Mark III though.
Or. . . swap for an AMT clone of the Ruger - they are already grooved for tip-off .22 scope bases.

Re: OT - If you don't know what gun to buy today...
The 10/22 was the last gun my Dad gave me before he died. I shot thousands and thousands of rounds through it over the years, though I admit it has not been out much lately. Still, I will never ever get rid of it. I bought Y2K a 10/22 years ago, and we love it. The most accurate gun I own is a 10/22T. Darn thing can take bulk .22 fodder and make it sing!
Good post Doc!

There aren't a whole lot of other guns that the calendar instructs us to buy, unfortunately...COSteve wrote:OK, I'll admit it .... ya got me!mikld wrote:Is Blain the only one to get this? October 22 (10-22)?
Another way to decide what gun to buy is to go by your age...
Get a .44 for your 44th birthday, a .50 for you 50th, or maybe a Model 70 for your 70th.

Re: OT - If you don't know what gun to buy today...
Gave my father a new 10/22 for Christmas 1965. He barely tolerated the gun but kept it for pests at the camp. He died in '75 and it's mostly been in its original box with all its papers and a little carbon copy sales slip off a pad of them (like waitresses used to use). The slip is dated Dec 24, 1965.
I don't much like it either but the gift gun goes to my middle son when I croak. (Middle son DOES like it)
