Round Nose Bullets?

Post by Washita »

I've got a bunch of 158-gr cast round-nose bullets I'd like to shoot in my new Rossi 92 .357 Mag, but have some reservations about their safety in a tubular magazine. These would be mid-range loads, no more than 1500 FPS in a 24" barrel, probably more like 1100-1200. What do you think--safe or unsafe? Anybody doing this?

The question is repeatedly asked here and the consensus is always the same, not to worry.

And my answer is consistently, "There is ROUND and then there is ROUND"! I've seen everything from a gentle ogive and a point to half a circle called ROUND! If the nose is truly ROUND, no worries. But, if it's slightly pointed, and you load with a heavy recoil... don't.

35 Rem shooters use round nose bullets in Remington factory loads, these are full power loads at around 2000 fps, and no problems (it's a factory load, lawyers and all)

Thanks, guys--appreciate the input. These bullets are really round nosed and I won't use them for anything hotter'n .38 Spl. midrange loads, so I think I'll give 'em a try.
