30-30 170 vs 150 poi

Post by zack coyote »

Gentlemen, I'm needing some 30-30 information. I have two 30-30's, a '75 Winchester 94, and a new Marlin 336 with a scope on it. When buying factory ammo, I always buy 170 gr., but when family buys me some for birthdays and Christmas, I get 150 gr. Could you tell me the approximate difference in point of impact between the two at 100 yds? I can't get to the range until it cols off some, and then it's an hour away. If the answer is only a couple of inches, I won't worry about it, as most shots around here are less than 50 yds.
We'll be remembered for what we've done, not what we have.

At 50 yards, there's a good chance that it's only a couple of inches. Putting holes in paper is what you have to do. Every gun is a bit different.
Kind regards,

At 100 yards w/my handloads, I have about ½" difference between 150 & 170s. Remington factory specs show about a third of an inch. Negligible.

I don't worry about it.

Yeah, no matter which, the deer is dead!
I zeroed both my levers yesterday with 158 g lead and XTP's at 50 yards. That was my comment to the wife when I got home. She asked how I did at the range. I replied that the deer are dead. I don't think she got it :?
