OT-I've started a hunting/fishing/shooting website
Mostly as a way to establish credentials should another outdoor related writing job become available ( I was recently turned down for a job at Brownells). I want something to be able to point to as experience.
It will also be where I'll log the results of my ballistics tests when I can finally start them.

Jason - I write for a couple of magazines. One full time position is as the Shotgun Shooting Editor. If you would like to submit an article I would be happy to edit it for you and submit it as a guest author. I can do this for some other mags but I would need to know your topic and see the article to fit it in.

Thanks, that's a real generous offer.86er wrote:Jason - I write for a couple of magazines. One full time position is as the Shotgun Shooting Editor. I have a few projects/articles planned but they involve actually shooting and thus will have to wait until the weather is warmer.

I put a link to it in my sig line. It's www.carbinecountry.comRKrodle wrote:Jason_W, good luck with your writing, how about a link to your web site.
Content is a bit sparse right now, focusing on ice fishing, but I plan to remedy that in a few months.

I'm not planning to do any firearms reviews. I'm not really qualified for that and my standards for a good firearm are pretty low. If it goes off when it's supposed to and doesn't break during normal use, I'm pretty happy.horsesoldier03 wrote:You have a good start. I like the name of the website. One suggestion I always like to see is HONEST evaluations of gun products that are unbiased. I enjoy GUN BLAST quite a bit Jeff seems to be a guy that doesnt always feel the need to put a glowing report out there. Good Luck with your endevor.
I'm more interested in collecting measurable data from terminal performance tests of ammunition.
Accuracy testing: My mediocre shooting ability would probably skew the results. I could make a 10,000 dollar rifle minute of pie plate

Thanks for checking it out, and I appreciate the constructive criticism I've received so far.
I'm a bit color scheme challenged, so that's a difficult task for me. I'll keep working on it, though.

Jason:
Many folks are red/green color blind. Avoid those colors and very close variations to make it easier for them to read. Contrast is easiest on the eye, dark on light - black on white for example.
Fancy lettering, shading and all capitals make it harder to read or shorten the time some users can stand to read. Don't highlight, underline (1st choice) or bold only the important stuff.
Simplify stuff, don't assume someone knows how to use it. Instructions like "Click Here" can be very helpful and user friendly.
Hopefully these tips will help you with the display choices.

I had to giggle when I read this...I'm not planning to do any firearms reviews. I'm not really qualified for that and my standards for a good firearm are pretty low. If it goes off when it's supposed to and doesn't break during normal use, I'm pretty happy.
I would take a $200 handi-rifle over a $3000 Blaser any day of the week

Even if I could afford the Blaser if I put a scratch on it I might sink into a
deep depression

I was a little kid the last time it was that cold in VTDakota7 wrote:Jason,
Your site looks good. If you came to No. Dak. you could right up about how to extend your ice auger. It has been below zero here for several days. 34 below this morning.
Keep up the good work.

The ice here has been 8" to 12", which is about perfect. Safe to walk on, but doesn't take all day to drill through.

Jason, believe it or not those little handi rifles have a pretty big following. Don't put them down. In fact a website directed towards them would sure generate a lot of traffic. (HINT, HINT)
