Sorry Members: Change of Plans rifle sale/college gift.

Post by LeverBar »

The plan has a new problem; the recipient prefers to decline the gift. I will respect their decision.

Since they are a member of this forum, it didn't take long for them to see through the scheme.

Something should be done with this rifle beyond simply selling it for a price. I would rather give it away than to do that.

You people surprise me with your generosity. What can we do with this not-so-pretty rifle that would benefit someone else?

The suggestion has been made--and it is a good one--that I do sell it and donate the money to a charity in memory of my Father. I can't quite wrap my druthers around that one yet.

I had more of an inclination to find someone to give it to who would benefit a bit beyond the norm of most rifle acquisitions.

For those of you who have asked its value, I'm not certain--somewhere between $700 and 850?--not sure. I'd have to watch more closely the auctions for rough Winchesters. $600?--I don't know. When the time comes, if it comes, I'll learn to post photos to help you determine for yourselves the monetary value. --I'd rather just give it to maybe a young person who would hunt with it.

Maybe I'm just making too much of this?

Looked back. If I get it right you can lighten the pressure on yourself. Value is way below the numbers you are quoting.

Donate it to 86er's camp as a backup available (maybe Ji can use it next month)
for anyone with a gun problem that wouldn't cause a missed hunt?

Now there is an idea. Users could donate to charity.

I saw the ideas. I would want to make a plaque that says something like "Donated in the Memory of ....." and something like, "To Spread the Appreciation of Lever Action Rifles". Then we get some bulk ammo and charge, oh I don't know, $10 box to shoot, hunt with , whatever. The $10 being returned to LeverBar to do as he wishes. You guys work it out with LeverBar and I'll help with whatever he decides to do.

Now that sounds like a great plan all the way through.
