I made these Moccasins about 15 years ago from a pattern I bought
at a leather shop. I have found these to be the ideal early season footwear
for the early PA. Muzzle loading and squirrel seasons. It’s surprising just
how quit you can slow walk those leafy wooded trail’s with this type of footwear.
No, I would not say your footwear is strange. Kinda neat. I used to wear moccasins back in my "hippy days". With all the junk thats floating around in the woods today, I feel safer wearing my good ole Redwing Loggers. (American made Redwings ) They are all I wear, all year long, except in extreme cold, then its my Danners (American made Danners )---------------------Sixgun
I like your boots. I have the pattern but have not made a pair yet, just make the short ones. The only lace up boots I have are a pair of Red Wing Irish Setters that are about 15 years oldhad the soles replaced a couple of times, they still clean up and look good with a coat of Mink Oil.
JerryB II Corinthians 3:17, Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
I have worn moccasins, sneakers, LL Bean pacs (preferred), my usual shoes (which are HD shoes like these Keens), even Topsiders or beach shoes. Depends on temperature and how much wet there will be.

Hobie

Mostly Hawthorn Smoke Jumpers. Have some Bean Maine Hunting boots for wet weather, and some Sorrel felt lined pacs for real cold and snowy stuff

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?
I wear moc's most of the year, canadian moosehide muckluks in the winter. I guess i take my mountain man thing too far. I make my own sioux style mocs from an old patter I made at the Museum of the Fur Trade in Chadron back int eh 70's.

Sometimes I wear flipflops.
I do have a heavy pair of boots but it's rarely cool enough to wear them. When I get to do some hunting here though, I plan on wearing 'em!
+1
I have to wear Combat Boots every day, so at all other times I'm in Sandals if possible.

Early in the season, when the woods are dry, I wear a pair of Clark's Desert Boots. Lightweight, comfortable, and by far the quietest of any soled footwear I own. (I do have a pair of mocs I sewed up years ago, and they are ultra-quiet -- but my old tootsies are a whole lot more sensitive to rocks and sticks than they used to be back when it seemed I lived 90% of my time in the outdoors barefooted!) But when things are wet, the reason why they are called "Desert Boots" becomes clear. No amount of waterproofing will keep out even a heavy dew.
