My elk hunting partner uses one. His is a Tikka. I have watched him drop two bulls with one shot apiece the last two seasons. I also saw him kill a nice Oryx in New Mexico last year-one shot. Looks like a good caliber. Anything in particular you want to know?

Thanks and good info. :)
Just wondering if anyone owns a like model 70 in this
caliber, their thoughts of what they think of it.
Ammo. brand and bullet type and weight that would
be a good starting point for sighting in.

I had a 270 WSM in the Winchester Model 1885 for a few years and it was a great shooter ! Also killed every deer it was ever pointed at !

I used three bullets in the rifle all 130 grains . The Hornady SST , Combined Technology BST and the Barnes Triple Shock .

At the same time I also had a model 70 in 325 WSM . That one shot great also . But I had to get a RifleBasix trigger to get it to suit me .

Anyway I liked both rifles and both cartridges . Loaded both with IMR4350 if my memory serves me !

Before you ask I just got tired of them both , nothing wrong just lost intrest after awhile .

Incidently "if" I were ever to go to a two rifle only battery (which I seriousely doubt) these two cartridges just might be the ones I'd choose !
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

Friend of mine in Idaho used one just like that for everything, deer, bear, elk. I think he used a premium 150 gr. Winchester factory load. Killed everything with one shot.

My partner has used various 140 grain premium bullets. I think he uses RL-19. The first bull elk was at 507 yards according to two Leica range finders. He used a premium factory load that time. The second elk was 410 yards and the Oryx was spitting distance-about 8 paces. Critters almost ran over us! He has also killed a few deer with it.

Had one. Didn't ever fire it. Traded it for the 40-72. But the main reason I'm posting is to compliment you on a very fine looking rifle. Love the wood and stainless.

My go to hunting rifle is a model 70 Classic Laminated like yours but mine's blued (and I'm jealous!). I absolutely love the .270 wsm! I load it with 110 grain Barnes TSX bullets over a stout charge of IMR-4350. At a tad over 3500 fps it shoots as flat as a varmint cartridge but it packs the mail like a big game round. As far as I'm concerned it is just about the perfect western hunting round.

Thanks clampdaddy,

You almost make me want to get one of these 270 WSM for myself. :)

I need to clarify, my Brother-in-law who is stationed in Guam in the USAF
purchased this rifle from a Gunbroker listing. (His first rifle  )
He had it sent to my gun dealer and ultimately to me for "safe" keeping until
He gets stationed out west in about two years. 8)

That makes me laugh...cause every time my brother had me keep a rifle for him for awhile (once in awhile he hadn't even shot them) I would take them out to try, set the scope up, tune the trigger and have quality handloads built by the time he picked the rifle up....he would always tell people at work that he never needed to tune a rifle...just left them for me to keep while he was on vacation and they magically would shoot perfect when he got home!

I dunno about being stationed in Guam , but I've flown thru there twice on the way to the Philippines and I sure would like to be flying thru there on my way to the Philippines right now

 Ed,
Ya'll have no idea how hard a time I'm having fighting the temptation.
But I sure don't want to rob my bro-in-law of being the first shooter of his brand new rifle.
